Ecclesiastes 8 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.

1 H2450 Who is as the wise H3045 man? and who knoweth H6592 the interpretation H1697 of a thing? H120 A man's H2451 wisdom H6440 maketh his face H215 to shine, H5797 and the hardness H6440 of his face H8132 is changed.

2 H8104 I counsel thee, Keep H4428 the king's H6310 command, H1700 and that in regard H7621 of the oath H430 of God.

3 H926 Be not hasty H3212 to go out H6440 of his presence; H5975 persist H7451 not in an evil H1697 thing: H6213 for he doeth H2654 whatsoever pleaseth him.

4 H4428 For the king's H1697 word H7983 hath power; H559 and who may say H6213 unto him, What doest thou?

5 H8104 Whoso keepeth H4687 the commandment H3045 shall know H7451 no evil H1697 thing; H2450 and a wise man's H3820 heart H3045 discerneth H6256 time H4941 and judgment:

6 H2656 for to every purpose H3426 there is H6256 a time H4941 and judgment; H7451 because the misery H120 of man H7227 is great upon him:

7 H3045 for he knoweth H5046 not that which shall be; for who can tell him how it shall be?

8 H120 There is no man H7989 that hath power H7307 over the spirit H3607 to retain H7307 the spirit; H7983 neither hath he power H3117 over the day H4194 of death; H4917 and there is no discharge H4421 in war: H7562 neither shall wickedness H4422 deliver H1167 him that is given to it.

9 H7200 All this have I seen, H5414 and applied H3820 my heart H4639 unto every work H6213 that is done H8121 under the sun: H6256 there is a time H120 wherein one man H7980 hath power H7451 over another to his hurt.

10 H3651 So H7200 I saw H7563 the wicked H6912 buried, H935 and they came H1980 to the grave; H6213 and they that had done H6918 right went away from the holy H4725 place, H7911 and were forgotten H5892 in the city: H1892 this also is vanity.

11 H6599 Because sentence H7451 against an evil H4639 work H6213 is not executed H4120 speedily, H3820 therefore the heart H1121 of the sons H120 of men H4390 is fully set H6213 in them to do H7451 evil.

12 H2398 Though a sinner H6213 do H7451 evil H3967 a hundred times, H748 and prolong H3045 his days, yet surely I know H2896 that it shall be well H3373 with them that fear H430 God, H3373 that fear H6440 before him:

13 H2896 but it shall not be well H7563 with the wicked, H748 neither shall he prolong H3117 his days, H6738 which are as a shadow; H3373 because he feareth H6440 not before H430 God.

14 H3426 There is H1892 a vanity H6213 which is done H776 upon the earth, H6662 that there are righteous H5060 men unto whom it happeneth H4639 according to the work H7563 of the wicked; H3426 again, there are H7563 wicked H5060 men to whom it happeneth H4639 according to the work H6662 of the righteous: H559 I said H1571 that this also H1892 is vanity.

15 H7623 Then I commended H8057 mirth, H120 because a man H2896 hath no better thing H8121 under the sun, H398 than to eat, H8354 and to drink, H8055 and to be joyful: H3867 for that shall abide H5999 with him in his labor H3117 all the days H2416 of his life H430 which God H5414 hath given H8121 him under the sun.

16 H5414 When I applied H3820 my heart H3045 to know H2451 wisdom, H7200 and to see H6045 the business H6213 that is done H776 upon the earth H3117 (for also there is that neither day H3915 nor night H7200 seeth H8142 sleep H5869 with his eyes),

17 H7200 then I beheld H4639 all the work H430 of God, H120 that man H3201 cannot H4672 find out H4639 the work H6213 that is done H8121 under the sun: H834 because H7945 however H120 much a man H5998 labor H1245 to seek it out, H4672 yet he shall not find H2450 it; yea moreover, though a wise H559 man think H3045 to know H3201 it, yet shall he not be able H4672 to find it.
