Psalms 18:1-30:12

VIN(i) 1 For the music director. Of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: "I love you, O LORD, my strength." 2 the LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower. 3 I call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; and I am saved from my enemies. 4 The ropes of death encircled me, and streams of ruin overwhelmed me. 5 The cords of the grave surrounded me. The snares of death confronted me. 6 (18:7) In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God; out of His temple He heard my voice, and my cry came before Him unto His ears. 7 Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains trembled, and they staggered because he was angry. 8 Smoke went up from his nostrils. A raging fire came out of his mouth. Glowing coals were kindled by it. 9 He lowered the heavens and came down; and darkness was under his feet. 10 He rode upon a cherub and flew; he soared upon the wings of the wind. 11 But he made darkness his covering, His tent around him was dark water in clouds of air. 12 Out of the brightness in front of him, those rain clouds passed by with hailstones and lightning. 13 Then the Lord thundered from heaven, the Most High uttered his voice: 14 He sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he multiplied lightnings, and routed them. 15 Then the channels of the sea were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils. 16 He reached down from high above and took hold of me. He pulled me out of the raging water. 17 He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, because they were too strong for me. 18 They confronted me on the day of disaster, but the LORD was my support. 19 So he brought me out to a spacious place. He delivered me because he delighted in me. 20 the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me. 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And I have not been wicked by turning from my Elohim." 22 All his judgments are in front of me and I have not turned away from his laws. 23 and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. 24 Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. 25 With the faithful you show yourself faithful. With the blameless man you show yourself blameless. 26 To the pure you show yourself pure. but to the wicked you show yourself shrewd. 27 You save humble people, but you humiliate the proud. 28 O LORD, you light my lamp. My God turns my darkness into light. 29 For with you I can charge a troop, and with my God I can scale a wall. 30 As for God, his way is perfect. The word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him. 31 For who is God besides the LORD? Or who is a Rock except our God? 32 It is God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of female-deers and sets me upon my high places. 34 He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35 You have also given me the shield of your salvation. Your right hand sustains me. Your gentleness has made me great. 36 You widened my steps beneath me, So that my limbs have not tottered." 37 I chased my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back until they were finished off. 38 I crushed them, and they were not able to rise: they fell under my feet. 39 You armed me with strength for battle. You made my opponents bow at my feet. 40 You made my enemies turn their backs to me. I destroyed those who hated me. 41 They cried, but there was none to save; even to the LORD, but he did not answer them. 42 And I ground them like dust in the wind, I emptied them out like mud of the streets. 43 You have delivered me from the strifes of the people. You have made me the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known will serve me. 44 As soon as they hear of me, they will obey me. Foreigners will cringe in front of me. 45 Foreigners will wilt away; they will come trembling out of their stronghold. 46 the LORD lives! Blessed be my rock. Exalted be the God of my salvation, 47 He is the God who avenges me, and speaks to people under me. 48 He saves me from my enemies. You lift me up above my opponents. You rescue me from violent people. 49 Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name. 50 He gives great victories to his king. He shows mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his descendants forever. 19 1 For the conclusion. A Psalm by David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaimeth the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, 5 which is as a bridegroom coming out of his room, like a strong man rejoicing to run his course. 6 It rises from one end of the heavens. It circles around to the other. Nothing is hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul, The testimonies of the LORD are stedfast, Making wise the simple, 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commands of the LORD are pure, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, standing forever. The judgments of the LORD are true; they are altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, even much fine gold, and sweeter than honey and drops from the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is your servant warned. In keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors. 13 Also, keep back your servant from arrogant sins; let them not rule over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. 20 1 To the Director: A Davidic Psalm. May the LORD answer you in the day of distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. 2 send you help from the sanctuary, grant you support from Zion, 3 May He remember all your sacrifices, and accept your whole burnt offerings. Pause. 4 He will give you according to your heart, and fulfill all your plans. 5 May we shout for joy at your deliverance and unfurl our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD fulfill all your petitions. 6 Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He answers him from His holy Heaven with the saving strengths of His right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. 8 They will sink to their knees and fall, but we will rise and stand firm. 9 Save, LORD. Let the King answer us when we call. 21 1 For the music director. A psalm of David. O LORD, the king will rejoice in your strength, and how greatly he will delight in your help. 2 You have given him the desire of his heart, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah 3 You go before him with wonderful blessings, and put a crown of fine gold on his head. 4 He asked life from you; you gave it to him— length of days forever and ever. 5 By thy salvation his glory is great. Thou wilt confer on him honour and majesty. 6 Indeed, you have given him eternal blessings; you will make him glad with the joy of your presence. 7 For the king trusts in the LORD, and in the mercy of the Most High; he will not be shaken. 8 Your hand will find all your enemies, your right hand will find those who hate you. 9 When you appear, you will set them ablaze like a fire furnace. In his wrath, the LORD will consume them, and the fire will devour them. 10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from among the children of men. 11 Though they plot evil against you and devise schemes, they will not succeed. 12 For you will make them turn their back, when you aim drawn bows at their face. 13 Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength. We will sing and praise your power. 22 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not answer; and in the night, and am not silent. 3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. 4 In You our fathers trusted; They trusted, and You delivered them." 5 They cried to you, and were delivered. They trusted in you, and were not disappointed. 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people. 7 All who see me deride me; they bust out the lip, they shake the head, 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him." 9 But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother's breasts. 10 On you I was cast from the womb. From my mother's belly you have been my God. 11 Don’t be far from me, for trouble is near. For there is no one to help. 12 Many bulls have surrounded me, strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. 13 they gape on me with their mouths as a tearing and a roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted within me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; and you have brought me into the dust of death. 16 For dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evil-doers has encircled me. They pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I can count all my bones. People stare and gloat over me. 18 They divide My garments among them and cast lots for My clothing. 19 But You, O LORD, be not far off; O My Strength, hurry to help Me! 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the mouth of the lion, and from the horns of the wild oxen answer me. 22 I will declare your name to my brothers. Among the assembly, I will praise you. 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him. All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him. Revere him, all you descendants of Israel. 24 For He has not despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard. 25 From you comes my praise in the great assembly. I will pay my vows before those who fear him. 26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD shall praise Him; your heart shall live forever. 27 All the limits of the earth shall remember and return to the LORD, And all the families of the nations shall bow down before Him." 28 Because the kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. 29 All the fat ones of the earth will eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust will bow before him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. 30 Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord. 31 They will come and tell his saving deeds to a people yet to be born, that he has done it. 23 1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me, even in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. 24 1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD's, and the fullness of it; the world, and those who live in it. 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 He that has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Savior. 6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob. Selah. 7 Lift your heads, you gates. Be lifted up, you ancient doors, so that the king of glory will come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates, yea, lift them up, ye everlasting doors; that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? the LORD Almighty, He is the King of glory. Selah. 25 1 Of David. To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. 2 I trust you, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame. Do not let my enemy’s triumph over me. 3 Yes, none who wait for you will be put to shame. They will be put to shame who deal treacherously without cause. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth, and teach me; for You are God my Savior; and I have waited on You all the day. 6 Remember, O LORD, Your compassions and Your mercies; for they are from eternity. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to your mercy remember me for your goodness' sake, O LORD. 8 Good and right is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9 He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way. 10 All the ways of the Lord are mercy and good faith for those who keep his agreement and his witness. 11 For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my sin, for it is great. 12 Who is the man that fears the Lord? He shall instruct him in the way which he has chosen. 13 His soul shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the land. 14 The Lord is the strength of them who fear him; and it is his covenant to display it for them. 15 My eyes are ever on the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart are multiplied: deliver me from my necessities. 18 Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins. 19 See how my enemies have increased in number, how they have hated me with vicious hatred! 20 O keep my soul, and deliver me. Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in thee. 21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for you. 22 Redeem Israel, God, from all of his troubles. 26 1 Davidic. Vindicate me, LORD, because I have walked in integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. 2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; purify my heart and my mind. 3 For your mercy is before my eyes; and I was well-pleased in your truth. 4 I do not sit with deceitful people, nor will I go about with hypocrites. 5 I hate the assembly of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked. 6 I will wash my hands in innocence: so will I go about your altar, O LORD: 7 to hear the voice of praise, and to declare all Your wonderful works. 8 LORD, I love the habitation of your house, the place where your glory dwells. 9 Do not take away my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men 10 In whose hands are wicked devices, and whose right hand is full of bribes. 11 But I will walk in my truthfulness; redeem me and be merciful to me. 12 My foot stands on level ground. In assemblies I will bless the LORD. 27 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers drew near against me To devour my flesh, They who were to me my foes and my enemies, They stumbled and fell." 3 Though an army is deployed against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident. 4 One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple 5 Because in the day of trouble he will hide me in his shelter. He will hide me in the covering of his tabernacle He will lift me up upon a rock. 6 Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies, even those who surround me. I will sacrifice in his tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melodies to the LORD. 7 Hear, O LORD, my voice when I call, and be gracious to me and answer me. 8 My heart says to You, Seek my face; Your face, O LORD, I will seek; 9 Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my help; do not abandon nor forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then LORD will take me up. 11 Teach me your way, LORD. Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies. 12 Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen up against me, such as breathe out violence. 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and let thy heart take courage: yea, wait for the LORD. 28 1 ([Psalm of David]) O LORD, I call to you. O my rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. If you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit (grave). 2 Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you, when I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. 3 Do not draw me away with the wicked, with evildoers who speak peace with their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts. 4 Pay them back for what they have done, for their evil deeds. Pay them back for what their hands have done, and give them recompense. 5 Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he will break them down and not build them up. 6 Blessed is the LORD for he has heard my prayer (supplication)! 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I received help. My heart exalts, and I give thanks to him with my song. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people. He is a stronghold of salvation to his anointed. 9 Save your people, and bless your inheritance. Be their shepherd also, and bear them up forever. 29 1 A psalm of David. Ascribe to the LORD, O sons of God, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Give to the LORD, the glory due to his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. 3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders. the LORD is over many waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. 5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars. Yes, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox. 7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and strippeth the forests bare; and in His temple all say: 'Glory.' 10 the LORD sat enthroned over the flood. the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. 11 May the LORD give strength to his people. May the LORD bless his people with peace. 30 1 A psalm; a song for the dedication of the house. Of David. I will exalt you, O LORD, because you have drawn me up, and have not made my enemies rejoice over me. 2 O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you healed me. 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave. You kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit. 4 Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of his. Give thanks to his holy name. 5 For His anger is only a moment; in His favor is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. 6 When things went well for me I said, I will never be moved. 7 You, LORD, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong; but when you hid your face, I was troubled. 8 To you, O LORD, I called, and to the Lord I pleaded for grace saying, 9 "What gain is there in my death, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? 10 Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me; O LORD, be my Help!" 11 You have turned my wailing into my dancing. You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy 12 so that I may sing praise to you and not remain silent. LORD, my God, I will give you thanks forever!
