1 And yet, I beseech you, Iyob, hear my utterances and hearken to all my words:
2 behold, I beseech, I open my mouth; my tongue words in my palate;
3 my sayings are of the straightness of my heart; and my lips utter knowledge purely.
4 The Spirit of El works me and the breath of Shadday enlivens me;
5 respond if you are able; line up at my face; get set!
6 Behold, I - your mouth in the stead of El; I also am formed from the clay.
7 Behold, may neither my terror frighten you nor my burden be heavy on you;
8 surely you said to my ears; and I heard the voice of your utterances;
9 I am pure without rebellion - covered - no perversity within me.
10 Behold, he finds alienations against me; he fabricates me for his enemy;
11 he sets my feet in the stocks; he guards all my paths.
12 Behold, in this you are not justified; I answer you, Elohah is greater than man.
13 Why strive against him? Of all his words, he answers none.
14 For El words once; yes, twice; he observes not.
15 In a dream - in a vision of the night when deep sleep falls on men in drowsiness on the bed;
16 then he exposes the ears of men and seals their discipline;
17 he turns humanity aside from his work and covers over the arrogance of the mighty:
18 he spares his soul from the pit of ruin and his life from the passing of the spear;
19 he is also reproved with sorrow on his bed and the strife of his bones is perennial;
20 his life loathes bread and his soul food of desire;
21 his flesh finishes off that it not be seen; and his bones that have not been seen be exposed.
22 Yes, his soul draws near to the pit of ruin and his life to the deathifiers.
23 If there is an angel with him an interpreter - one among a thousand to tell humanity his straightness,
24 then he grants him charism and says, Rescue him from descending to the pit of ruin; I have found a koper/an atonement.
25 His flesh rejuvinates as ladhood; he returns to the days of his youth;
26 he intreats Elohah and pleases him; he sees his face with shouting; for he restores his justness to man.
27 He observes men, and if any say, I sinned and perverted the straight and it profits me not;
28 he redeems my soul from passing into the pit of ruin and my life sees the light.
29 Behold, El does all these - twice and thrice with the mighty;
30 to return his soul from the pit of ruin; to enlighten with the light of the living.
31 Mark well, O Iyob, hearken to me; hush and I word.
32 If you have utterances, respond; word, for I desire to justify you.
33 If not, hearken to me; hush - and I teach you wisdom.
