3 Cum acceperit Deus animam meam, corpus meum sepeli: et honorem habebis matri tuæ omnibus diebus vitæ ejus:
4 memor enim esse debes, quæ et quanta pericula passa sit propter te in utero suo.
5 Cum autem et ipsa compleverit tempus vitæ suæ, sepelias eam circa me.
6 Omnibus autem diebus vitæ tuæ in mente habeto Deum: et cave ne aliquando peccato consentias, et prætermittas præcepta Domini Dei nostri.
7 Ex substantia tua fac eleemosynam, et noli avertere faciem tuam ab ullo paupere: ita enim fiet ut nec a te avertatur facies Domini.
8 Quomodo potueris, ita esto misericors.
9 Si multum tibi fuerit, abundanter tribue: si exiguum tibi fuerit, etiam exiguum libenter impertiri stude.

3 Whanne God hath take my soule, byrie thou my bodi; and `thou schal haue onour to thi modir in alle the daies of hir lijf;

2 And sayde with himselfe, I haue wished for death: wherefore do I not call for my sonne Tobias that I may admonish him before I die?
3 And whe he had called him, he said, My sone, after that I am dead, bury me, and despise not thy mother, but honour her all the dayes of thy life, and do that which shal please her, & anger her not.
4 Remember, my sonne, howe many dangers she susteined when thou wast in her wombe,
5 And when she dyeth, bury her by me in the same graue.
6 My sonne, set our Lord God alwayes before thine eyes, and let not thy wil be set to sinne or to trasgresse the comandements of God. Do vprightly all thy life long, and followe not the wayes of vnrighteousnesse: for if thou deale truely, thy doings shal prosperously succeede to thee, and to all them which liue iustly.
7 Giue almes of thy substance: & when thou giuest almes, let not thine eye be enuious, neyther turne thy face from any poore, lest that God turne his face from thee.
8 Giue almes according to thy substace: if thou haue but a litle, be not afrayd to giue a litle almes.
9 For thou layest vp a good store for thy selfe against the day of necessitie,
10 Because that almes doeth deliuer fro death, and suffreth not to come into darkenesse.
11 For almes is a good gifte before the most High to all them which vse it.
12 Beware of all whoredome, my sonne, and chiefly take a wife of the seede of thy fathers, and take not a strange woman to wife, which is not of thy fathers stocke: for wee are the children of the Prophetes. Remember my sonne, that they marryed wiues of their owne kinred, and were blessed in their children, and their seede shall inherite the lande.
13 Now therefore, my sonne, loue thy brethren, & despise not in thine heart thy brethre, the sonnes and daughters of thy people, in not taking a wife of them: for in pride is destruction, & much trouble, and in fiercenes is scarcitie, and great pouertie: for fiercenes is the mother of famine.
14 Let not the wages of any man, which hath wrought for thee, tary with thee, but giue him it out of hand: for if thou serue God, he wil also pay thee: be circumspect, my sonne, in all thinges that thou doest, & be wel instructed in all thy conuersation.
15 Do that to no ma which thou hatest: drinke not wine to make thee drunken, neyther let drunkennesse go with thee in thy iourney.
16 Giue of thy bread to the hungry, & of thy garments to them that are naked, and of all thine abundance giue almes, and let not thine eye be enuious, when thou giuest almes.
17 Powre out thy bread on the buriall of the iust, but giue nothing to the wicked.
18 Aske counsell alway of the wise, and despise not any counsel that is profitable.

20 Furthermore I signifie this to thee, that I deliuered tenne talents to Gabael the sonne of Gabrias at Rages in Media.
21 And feare not, my sonne, forasmuch as wee are made poore: for thou hast many things, if thou feare God, & flee from all sinne, and do that thing which is acceptable vnto him.

1 So when Tobias thought his prayer to be heard, that he might dye, he called vnto him his sonne Tobias,
2 And sayde vnto him: My sonne heare the wordes of my mouth, and lay them in thyne heart as a foundation.
3 When God taketh away my soule, burie thou my body: and holde thy mother in honour all the dayes of her life.
4 For thou oughtest to remember what and howe great peryls she suffred for thee in her wombe.
5 And when she also hath fulfilled the time of her life, burie her beside me.
6 Haue God in thy thought all the dayes of thy life, and beware lest at any time thou consent vnto sinne, and lest thou let slippe the commaundementes of the Lorde our God.

8 As thy substance is, give alms of it according to thine abundance: if thou have little, be not afraid to give alms according to that little:
9 for thou layest up a good treasure for thyself against the day of necessity:
10 because alms delivereth from death, and suffereth not to come into darkness.
11 Alms is a good gift in the sight of the Most High for all that give it.
12 Beware, my child, of all whoredom, and take first a wife of the seed of thy fathers, and take not a strange wife, which is not of thy father’s tribe: for we are the sons of the prophets. Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, our fathers of old time, remember, my child, that they all took wives of their brethren, and were blessed in their children, and their seed shall inherit the land.
13 And now, my child, love thy brethren, and scorn not in thy heart thy brethren, and the sons and the daughters of thy people, to take a wife of them: for in scornfulness is destruction and much trouble, and in naughtiness is decay and great want: for naughtiness is the mother of famine.
14 Let not the wages of any man, which shall work for thee, tarry with thee, but render it unto him out of hand: and if thou serve God, recompense shall be made unto thee. Take heed to thyself, my child, in all thy works, and be discreet in all thy behaviour.
15 And what thou thyself hatest, do to no man. Drink not wine unto drunkenness, and let not drunkenness go with thee on thy way.
16 Give of thy bread to the hungry, and of thy garments to them that are naked: of all thine abundance give alms; and let not thine eye be envious when thou givest alms.
17 Pour out thy bread on the burial of the just, and give nothing to sinners.
18 Ask counsel of every man that is wise, and despise not any counsel that is profitable.
19 And bless the Lord thy God at all times, and ask of him that thy ways may be made straight, and that all thy paths and counsels may prosper: for every nation hath not counsel; but the Lord himself giveth all good things, and he humbleth whom he will, as he will. And now, my child, remember my commandments, and let them not be blotted out of thy mind.
20 And now I shew thee of the ten talents of silver, which I left in trust with Gabael the son of Gabrias at Rages of Media.
21 And fear not, my child, because we are made poor: thou hast much wealth, if thou fear God, and depart from all sin, and do that which is pleasing in his sight.

1 In that day Tobit remembered the money which he had left in trust with Gabael in Rages of Media,
2 and he said to himself, I have asked for death; why do I not call my son Tobias, that I may explain to him about the money before I die?
3 And he called him, and said, “My child, if I die, bury me. Don’t despise your mother. Honor her all the days of your life, and do that which is pleasing to her, and don’t grieve her.
4 Remember, my child, that she has seen many dangers for you, when you were in her womb. When she is dead, bury her by me in one grave.
5 My child, be mindful of the Lord our God all your days, and don’t let your will be set to sin and to transgress his commandments: do righteousness all the days of your life, and don’t follow the ways of unrighteousness.
6 For if you do what is true, your deeds will prosperously succeed for you, and for all those who do righteousness.
7 Give alms from your possessions. When you give alms, don’t let your eye be envious. Don’t turn away your face from any poor man, and the face of God won’t be turned away from you.
