While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, scribes, and elders.
Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him and lead Him away securely.”
Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Then the men seized Jesus, and arrested him.
And one of the bystanders drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
And answering the Jesus said to them: As upon a robber came you out with swords and clubs, to take me.
Every day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But the scriptures must be fulfilled."
Then they all deserting him, fled.
A certain young man, who was wearing nothing but a linen sheet, was following Jesus. When the men grabbed him,
he fled away naked, leaving the sheet behind him.
They took Jesus away to the high priest, and all the high priests, elders, and scribes came together.
But Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, and they did not find it.
For many testified falsely against him, but their testimony did not agree;
Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, saying,
"We heard him say, 'I will destroy this Temple made by hands and in three days I will build another not made by hands.'
Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Don't you have any answer to what these men are testifying against you?"
But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"
“I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
The high priest tore his clothes and said, "Why do we need any more witnesses?
You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" They all condemned him to be worthy of death.
Then some of them began to spit on Him. They blindfolded Him, struck Him with their fists, and said to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers received Him with slaps in His face.
