  16 G2264 But when Herod G191 heard G2036 thereof, he said, G2491 It is John, G3739 whom G607 I beheaded: G1453 he is risen G3498 from the dead.
  17 G2264 For Herod G846 himself G649 had sent G1614 forth G2902 and laid hold G2491 on John, G1210 and bound G5438 him in prison G2266 for Herodias’ G80 sake, his brother G5376 Philip’s G1135 wife: G1060 for he had married her.
  18 G2491 For John G3004 had said G2264 to Herod, G1832 It is not lawful G2192 for you to have G80 your brother’s G1135 wife.
  19 G2266 Therefore Herodias G1758 had a quarrel G2309 against him, and would G615 have killed G1410 him; but she could not:
  20 G2264 For Herod G5399 feared G2491 John, G1492 knowing G1342 that he was a just G435 man G40 and an holy, G4933 and observed G191 him; and when he heard G4160 him, he did G4183 many G191 things, and heard G2234 him gladly.
  21 G2121 And when a convenient G2250 day G1096 was come, G2264 that Herod G1077 on his birthday G4160 made G1173 a supper G3175 to his lords, G5310 high G5506 captains, G4413 and chief G1056 estates of Galilee;
  22 G2364 And when the daughter G846 of the said G2266 Herodias G1525 came G3738 in, and danced, G700 and pleased G2264 Herod G4873 and them that sat G935 with him, the king G2036 said G2877 to the damsel, G154 Ask G3739 of me whatever G1437 G2309 you will, G1325 and I will give it you.
  23 G3660 And he swore G3739 to her, Whatever G1437 G154 you shall ask G1325 of me, I will give G2255 it you, to the half G932 of my kingdom.
  24 G1831 And she went G1831 forth, G2036 and said G3384 to her mother, G5101 What G154 shall I ask? G2036 And she said, G2776 The head G2491 of John G910 the Baptist.
  25 G1525 And she came G2112 in straightway G4710 with haste G935 to the king, G154 and asked, G3004 saying, G2309 I will G1325 that you give G4094 me by and by in a charger G2776 the head G2491 of John G910 the Baptist.
  26 G935 And the king G4036 was exceeding G4036 sorry; G3727 yet for his oath’s G3588 sake, and for their sakes which G4873 sat G2309 with him, he would G114 not reject her.
  27 G2112 And immediately G935 the king G649 sent G4688 an executioner, G2004 and commanded G2776 his head G5342 to be brought: G565 and he went G607 and beheaded G5438 him in the prison,
  28 G5342 And brought G2776 his head G4094 in a charger, G1325 and gave G2877 it to the damsel: G2877 and the damsel G1325 gave G3384 it to her mother.
  29 G3101 And when his disciples G191 heard G2064 of it, they came G142 and took G4430 up his corpse, G5087 and laid G3419 it in a tomb.
