WPNT⁽ⁱ⁾ ² At the proper time he sent a slave to the farmers, that he might receive from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. ³ But they took him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. ⁴ Again he sent another slave to them, and that one they wounded in the head by stoning, and sent him away shamefully treated. ⁵ Again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some. ⁶ Finally, still having his one beloved son, he even sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son’. ⁷ But those farmers said to one another: ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and the inheritance will be ours.’ ⁸ So they took him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
