Nahum

VIN(i) 1 An oracle about Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. 2 The LORD is a jealous God and avenges. The LORD avenges and is full of wrath. The LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he maintains wrath against his enemies. 3 the LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and doth not at all clear [the guilty]: the LORD, -- his way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. 4 He rebukes the sea and he dries up the rivers; he makes all the rivers run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither; the blossom of Lebanon languishes. 5 The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world, and all who dwell in it. 6 His indignation—who can stand before it? Who can endure his fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; rocks are shattered before him. 7 the LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. 8 But with an overflowing flood, he will make a full end of her place, and will pursue his enemies into darkness. 9 What do you plot against the LORD? He will completely destroy it; trouble will not rise up a second time! 10 Entangled like thorns and drunken from drink, they are consumed like dry stubble. 11 From you goes out one who plots evil against the LORD, one who plans wickedness. 12 the LORD declares: »Though they are strong and are many they will be destroyed! They will pass away. Though I have afflicted you [O Judah] I will not afflict you any more. 13 Now I will break off Assyria's yoke from you, and tear apart your shackles." 14 And the LORD has commanded concerning you. Not one of your name shall be sown any more; I will cut off the carved image and the molten image out of the house of your gods; I will appoint your grave, for you are despised. 15 "Behold, upon the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings. Who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah and perform your vows! The wicked will no more pass through (invade) you. They will be completely destroyed."
