Mark 1:1-12

Anderson(i) 1 THE beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way. 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 John was immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance in order to the remission of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea and the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him, and were all immersed by him in the river Jordan, con fessing their sins. 6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a girdle of leather around his loins, and he ate locusts and wild honey: 7 and he preached, saying: There comes after me One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. 8 I immerse you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit. 9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by John in the Jordan. 10 And immediately on coming up from the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him. 11 And there was a voice from the heavens: Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I delight. 12 And immediately the Spirit compelled him to go forth into the wilderness.
