ABU(i)
THE beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, Son of God,
as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I send forth my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way;
the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
John came immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance unto remission of sins.
And there went out to him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey.
And he preached, saying: There comes after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.
I indeed immersed you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit.
And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by John in the Jordan.
And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens parted, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him.
And there came a voice out of heaven: Thou art my beloved son; in thee I am well pleased.
And immediately the Spirit drives him forth into the wilderness.
