These are more wise sayings of Solomon, copied out by the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.
As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.
Remove the dross from silver, and it will become a vessel for the smith.
remove the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;
For it is better that he say to you, "Ascend here," than he humble you before a noble. What your eyes have seen,
Do not run quickly to court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame.
Instead, take up the matter with your neighbor, and don't betray another person's confidence.
lest he who hears shame you and your ill repute will not end.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise provider to a listening ear.
Like the cold of snow in harvest time, so is a faithful messenger to those sending him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.
Through patience a ruler may be persuaded; a gentle word can break a bone.
If you find some honey, eat only what you need. Take too much, and you'll vomit.
Seldom set foot in your neighbor's home; otherwise, he'll grow weary and hate you.
Like a club and sword and a sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.
A bad tooth and a lame foot is the trust of a faithless person in a time of trouble.
Like one who removes a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on natron, is he who sings songs to a heavy heart.
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
The north wind brings rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry look.
It's better to live in a corner on the roof than in a house with a contentious woman.
Like cold water upon a weary soul, so too is good news from a distant place.
Like a muddied spring and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.
A city breached, without walls that's what a man is who has no self-control.
