VIN(i)
1 the LORD (YHWH) spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Desert of Sinai. It was the first day of the second month in the second year after leaving Egypt. He said:
2 "Take a census of the entire Israelite community, numbering them by their clans and by ancestral houses. List the names of every male one-by-one,
3 From twenty years old and upwards, of all the men of Israel fit for war, and you shall number them by their troops, thou and Aaron.
4 A man from each tribe will be with you, each man the head of his family.
5 And these are the names of the men who will assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;
6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;
7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;
8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;
9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon.
10 for the sons of Joseph:for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;"
11 From Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;
12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;
13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran;
14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;
15 For Naphtali: Ahira, son of Enan.
16 These are the ones summoned from the community, the leaders of their ancestors' tribes; they are the heads of Israel's clans.
17 Moses and Aaron took the men who had been named
18 and they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month. And they declared their ancestry after their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and
19 just as the LORD commanded Moses. And he counted them in the desert of Sinai.
20 The descendants of Reuben, the first born of Israel: Their genealogies according to their clans and ancestral houses, as well as the names of all the men twenty years and above who can serve in the army were recorded individually.
21 Those registered with the tribe of Reuben were 46,500.
22 The descendants of Simeon: Their genealogies according to their clans and ancestral houses, as well as the names of all the men twenty years and above who can serve in the army were recorded individually.
23 Those registered with the tribe of Simeon were 59, 300.
24 Among the children of Gad, their generation in their kindreds and households of their fathers — when they were told by name, from twenty years and above, all that were mete for the war -
25 Those registered with the tribe of Gad were 45, 650.
26 Among the children of Judah, their generation in their kindreds and houses of their fathers — by the number of names, from twenty years and above, all that were able to war -
27 Those registered with the tribe of Judah were 74, 600.
28 For the sons of Issachar, their generations according to their families, according to the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, from
29 Those registered with the tribe of Issachar were 54, 400.
30 Among the children of Zebulun, their generation, in their kindreds and houses of their fathers —after the number of names, from twenty years and above, whosoever was mete for the war -
31 Those registered with the tribe of Zebulun were 57, 400.
32 Of the sons of Joseph, of the sons of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' house, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, everyone able to go out to war:
33 Those registered with the tribe of Joseph were 40, 500.
34 Among the children of Manasseh, their generation, in their kindreds and houses of their fathers — when the names of all that were apt to war were told,
35 Those registered with the tribe of Manasseh were 32, 200.
36 Among the children of Benjamin, their generation, in their kindreds and houses of their fathers — by the tale of names, from twenty years and above of all that were mete for war -
37 Those registered with the tribe of Benjamin were 35, 400.
38 Among the children of Dan, their generation in their kindreds and houses of their fathers — in the sum of names of all that was apt to war,
39 Those registered with the tribe of Dan were 62, 700.
40 Among the children of Asher, their generation, in their kindreds and houses of their fathers — when they were summed by name, from twenty years and above, all that were apt to war -
41 Those registered with the tribe of Asher were 41, 500.
42 Among the children of Naphtali, their generation in their kindreds and houses of their fathers — when their names were told, from twenty years and above, whatsoever was mete to war -
43 Those registered with the family of Naphtali were 53, 400.
44 These are the ones counted whom Moses and Aaron mustered, with the twelve leaders of Israel, each one from his family.
45 And the whole review of the Israelites, comprehending their army from twenty years old and upwards,
46 And the total of all those who were numbered was 603,550.
47 But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not counted among them.
48 the LORD said to Moses:
49 "Do not register the tribe of Levi or include them in the census with the other Israelites.
50 but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.
51 When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.
52 The children of Israel are to put up their tents, every man in his tent-circle round his flag.
53 But the Levites must camp around the tabernacle of the testimony so that divine wrath won't fall on the congregation of Israel. The Levites must take care of the tabernacle of the testimony.
54 The Israelites did everything as the LORD commanded Moses.
