Joshua chose thirty thousand of the best fighting men and sent them by night. ⁴ telling them, "Pay attention now! You are to set up an ambush around the city. Don't go very far from the city, and all of you remain on alert. ⁵ And I and all the people with me will come near the town, and when they come out against us as they did before, we will go in flight from them; ⁶ They will come out after us until we draw them away from the city, because they will think, 'They are fleeing from us as before.' So we will flee from them. ⁷ Then you shall rise up from the ambush, and seize the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
