After this, the entire assembly of the Israelites gathered together at Shiloh and set up a Tent of Meeting there, where the land lay conquered before them.
¶ And there remained among the sons of Israel seven tribes who had not yet received their inheritance.
And Joshua said to the Israelites, "How long will you be slack about going to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has given you?
"Appoint three men from each tribe: and I will send them, and they will rise, and go through the land, and write a description of it according to their inheritance. Then they will return to me.
They'll divide it seven ways. Judah will stay in its territory on the south and the house of Joseph will remain in its territory on the north.
And you will describe the land into seven portions and bring it here to me. And I will cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.
However, the Levites have no portion among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance. Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance east of the Jordan, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.”
And when the men were risen up, to go to mark out the land, Josue commanded them saying: Go round the land and mark it out, and return to me: that I may cast lots for you before the Lord in Silo.
The men went and passed through the land, and wrote a description of it by cities into seven parts in a book, and returned to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh.
And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD. And there Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions.
And first came up the lot of the children of Benjamin by their families, to possess the land between the children of Juda, and the children of Joseph.
Their northern border began at the Jordan and went up to the slope of Jericho on the north and continued into the hill country to the west; it ends at the wilderness of Beth Aven.
And from there the line goes south to Luz, to the side of Luz which is Beth-el, then down to Ataroth-addar, by the mountain to the south of Beth-horon the lower.
From the hill that lies before Beth-horon southward; and it ended at Kirjath-baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter.
The southern side began at the outskirts of Kiriath Jearim. The border went out westward, and went out to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah.
The border went down to the farthest part of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which is in the valley of Rephaim northward. It went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite southward, and went down to En Rogel.
It extended northward, went out at En Shemesh, and went out to Geliloth, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim. It went down to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.
And it passed on to the north to the shoulder of Beth Arabah, and went down to the Arabah.
The border passes on to the slope of Beth-hoglah to the north and ends at the north bay of the Salt Sea at the south end of the Jordan. This is the southern border.
The Jordan forms its border on the eastern side. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Benjamin, its borders that surrounds them, according to their families.
The towns belonging to the tribe of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keriz,
Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,
Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,
Kephar Ammoni, Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities and their villages.
Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,
Mizpeh, Kephirah, Mozah,
Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,
and Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi (it [is] Jerusalem), Gibeath, Kirjath:fourteen cities and their villages. This [is] the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin, for their families.
