Job 2

VIN(i) 1 And then one day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came into their midst to present himself before the LORD. 2 And the LORD said to Satan, From where have you come? And Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and walking up and down in it. 3 the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause.” 4 Satan answered the LORD: "Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life. 5 "But stretch out your hand, and strike his flesh and bones and he will curse you to your face!" 6 the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life. 7 So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head. 8 Job took a piece of broken pottery to scratch his sores as he sat in the ashes. 9 And his wife said to him, Are you still holding fast to your integrity? Curse God and die! 10 But he replied to her, "You're talking like foolish women do. Shall we accept what is good from God but not tragedy?" Throughout all of this, Job did not sin by what he said. 11 ¶ Now three friends of Job, Eliphaz, the Temanite, Bildad, the Shuhite, and Zophar, the Naamathite, when they heard of all this evil that had come upon him, each one came from his own place; for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him. 12 And when they saw him from a distance they did not know him; and they cried with a loud voice, and wept, and everyone tore his garment, and sprinkled dust upon their heads, 13 Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him because they saw that he was in such great pain.
