As the Father sent me forth, I am sending you forth." ²² And with these words he breathed on them, and added, "Receive the holy Spirit! ²³ If you remit the sins of any, they are remitted: if you retain them, they are retained." ²⁴ Now Thomas, one of the twelve, who was called 'the Twin,' was not with them when Jesus came; ²⁵ and when the rest of the disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord," he said, "Unless I see his hands with the mark of the nails, and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe it." ²⁶ Eight days afterwards his disciples were together again, and Thomas with them. Though the doors were closed, Jesus entered and stood among them, saying, "Peace be with you!" ²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, "Look at my hands, put your finger here; and put your hand here into my side; cease your unbelief and believe." ²⁸ Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" ²⁹ Jesus said to him, "You believe because you have seen me? Blessed be those who believe though they have never seen me."
