Deuteronomy 1:13-17 Take you wise men , and understanding , and known among your tribes , and I will make them rulers over you.

15 H3947 So I took [H8799] H7218 the chief H7626 of your tribes H2450 , wise H582 men H3045 , and known [H8803] H5414 , and made [H8799] H7218 them heads H8269 over you, captains H505 over thousands H8269 , and captains H3967 over hundreds H8269 , and captains H2572 over fifties H8269 , and captains H6235 over tens H7860 , and officers [H8802] H7626 among your tribes.

16 H6680 And I charged [H8762] H8199 your judges [H8802] H6256 at that time H559 , saying [H8800] H8085 , Hear [H8800] H251 the causes between your brethren H8199 , and judge [H8804] H6664 righteously H376 between every man H251 and his brother H1616 , and the stranger that is with him.

17 H5234 Ye shall not respect [H8686] H6440 persons H4941 in judgment H8085 ; but ye shall hear [H8799] H6996 the small H1419 as well as the great H1481 ; ye shall not be afraid [H8799] H6440 of the face H376 of man H4941 ; for the judgment H430 is God's H1697 : and the cause H7185 that is too hard [H8799] H7126 for you, bring [H8686] H8085 it unto me, and I will hear [H8804] it.

ERV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹³ Take you wise men, and understanding, and known, according to your tribes, and I will make them heads over you. ¹⁴ And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good [for us] to do. ¹⁵ So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear [the causes] between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.
