He continues speaking in public openness (boldly as though being a citizen) – and they continue saying nothing to him. The chief rulers (or: "the authorities") have not at some point come to really know personally that this one is the Christ (the Anointed One; = the Messiah), have they? ²⁷ "On the contrary, we have seen, and thus, we know this one – what place and source he is from. Yet whenever the Christ (the Anointed One; = the Messiah) should proceed in coming, no one is getting to know what place or source he is from."
