Mark 4 Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again), ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). καὶ (And) συνάγεται (was gathered together) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πλεῖστος (great), ὥστε (so that) αὐτὸν (He) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat) ἐμβάντα (having entered), καθῆσθαι (sat) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θαλάσσῃ (sea), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) πρὸς (close to) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (land) ἦσαν (was).

BIB⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again), ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). καὶ (And) συνάγεται (was gathered together) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πλεῖστος (great), ὥστε (so that) αὐτὸν (He) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat) ἐμβάντα (having entered), καθῆσθαι (sat) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θαλάσσῃ (sea), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) πρὸς (close to) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (land) ἦσαν (was). ² Καὶ (And) ἐδίδασκεν (He began teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλά (many things), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ³ “Ἀκούετε (Listen)! ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) σπεῖραι (to sow). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (as) τῷ (-) σπείρειν (he sowed), ὃ (some) μὲν (-) ἔπεσεν (fell) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτό (it). ⁵ Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) πετρῶδες (rocky place), ὅπου (where) οὐκ (not) εἶχεν (it had) γῆν (soil) πολλήν (much), καὶ (and) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἐξανέτειλεν (it sprang up), διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) βάθος (depth) γῆς (of soil). ⁶ καὶ (And) ὅτε (after) ἀνέτειλεν (rose) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), ἐκαυματίσθη (it was scorched), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) ῥίζαν (root), ἐξηράνθη (it withered away). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (among) τὰς (the) ἀκάνθας (thorns), καὶ (and) ἀνέβησαν (grew up) αἱ (the) ἄκανθαι (thorns), καὶ (and) συνέπνιξαν (choked) αὐτό (it), καὶ (and) καρπὸν (fruit) οὐκ (no) ἔδωκεν (it yielded). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἄλλα (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) καλήν (good), καὶ (and) ἐδίδου (began yielding) καρπὸν (fruit), ἀναβαίνοντα (growing up) καὶ (and) αὐξανόμενα (increasing), καὶ (and) ἔφερεν (bearing) ἓν* (one) τριάκοντα (thirtyfold), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑξήκοντα (sixty), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑκατόν (a hundred).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying), “Ὃς (He who) ἔχει (has) ὦτα (ears) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἀκουέτω (let him hear).” ¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἐγένετο (He was) κατὰ (with) μόνας (alone), ἠρώτων (began asking) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (those) περὶ (around) αὐτὸν (Him) σὺν (with) τοῖς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve) τὰς (about the) παραβολάς (parable). ¹¹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμῖν (To you) τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) δέδοται (has been given) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ἐκείνοις (To those) δὲ (however) τοῖς (who are) ἔξω (outside), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὰ (-) πάντα (everything) γίνεται (is done), ¹² ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), βλέπωσιν (they might see) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἴδωσιν (perceive); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), ἀκούωσιν (they might hear) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (understand); Μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) ἐπιστρέψωσιν (they should turn), Καὶ (and) ἀφεθῇ (should be forgiven) αὐτοῖς (them).’” ¹³ Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (understand you) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this)? καὶ (And) πῶς (how) πάσας (all) τὰς (the) παραβολὰς (parables) γνώσεσθε (will you understand)? ¹⁴ Ὁ (The one) σπείρων (sowing), τὸν (the) λόγον (word) σπείρει (sows). ¹⁵ οὗτοι (These) δέ (now) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (they) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (road), ὅπου (where) σπείρεται (is sown) ὁ (the) λόγος (word), καὶ (and) ὅταν (when) ἀκούσωσιν (they hear), εὐθὺς (immediately) ἔρχεται (comes) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) καὶ (and) αἴρει (takes away) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τὸν (-) ἐσπαρμένον (having been sown) εἰς (in) αὐτούς (them). ¹⁶ Καὶ (And) οὗτοί (these) εἰσιν (are) ὁμοίως (likewise) οἱ (those) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰ (the) πετρώδη (rocky places) σπειρόμενοι (sown), οἳ (who), ὅταν (when) ἀκούσωσιν (they hear) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), εὐθὺς (immediately) μετὰ (with) χαρᾶς (joy) λαμβάνουσιν (receive) αὐτόν (it), ¹⁷ καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (they have) ῥίζαν (root) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), ἀλλὰ (but) πρόσκαιροί (temporary) εἰσιν (are); εἶτα (then) γενομένης (having arisen) θλίψεως (tribulation) ἢ (or) διωγμοῦ (persecution) διὰ (on account of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), εὐθὺς (immediately) σκανδαλίζονται (they fall away). ¹⁸ Καὶ (And) ἄλλοι (these) εἰσὶν (are) οἱ (those) εἰς (among) τὰς (the) ἀκάνθας (thorns) σπειρόμενοι (sown). οὗτοί (These) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (those), τὸν (the) λόγον (word) ἀκούσαντες (having heard), ¹⁹ καὶ (and) αἱ (the) μέριμναι (cares) τοῦ (-) αἰῶνος (of this age), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀπάτη (deceit) τοῦ (of the) πλούτου (riches), καὶ (and) αἱ (-) περὶ (of) τὰ (the) λοιπὰ (other things) ἐπιθυμίαι (desires) εἰσπορευόμεναι (entering in), συμπνίγουσιν (choke) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), καὶ (and) ἄκαρπος (unfruitful) γίνεται (it becomes). ²⁰ Καὶ (And) ἐκεῖνοί (these) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (those) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) καλὴν (good) σπαρέντες (having been sown); οἵτινες (such as) ἀκούουσιν (hear) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) καὶ (and) παραδέχονται (receive it), καὶ (and) καρποφοροῦσιν (bring forth fruit), ἓν (one) τριάκοντα (thirtyfold), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑξήκοντα (sixty), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑκατόν (a hundred).” ²¹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) 〈ὅτι〉 (-), “Μήτι (Not) ἔρχεται (is brought in) ὁ (the) λύχνος (lamp) ἵνα (so that) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (the) μόδιον (basket) τεθῇ (it might be put), ἢ (or) ὑπὸ (under) τὴν (the) κλίνην (bed)? οὐχ (Is it not) ἵνα (that) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) λυχνίαν (lampstand) τεθῇ (it might be put)? ²² οὐ (Nothing) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (there is) 〈τι〉 (which is) κρυπτὸν (hidden), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ἵνα (that) φανερωθῇ (it should be made manifest), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐγένετο (has taken place) ἀπόκρυφον (a secret thing), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) ἔλθῃ (it should come) εἰς (to) φανερόν (light). ²³ Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) ἔχει (has) ὦτα (ears) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἀκουέτω (let him hear).” ²⁴ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Βλέπετε (Take heed) τί (what) ἀκούετε (you hear). ἐν (With) ᾧ (what) μέτρῳ (measure) μετρεῖτε (you measure) μετρηθήσεται (it will be measured) ὑμῖν (to you), καὶ (and) προστεθήσεται (more will be added) ὑμῖν (to you). ²⁵ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἔχει (may have), δοθήσεται (it will be given) αὐτῷ (to him); καὶ (and) ὃς (he who) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), καὶ (even) ὃ (that which) ἔχει (he has) ἀρθήσεται (will be taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him).” ²⁶ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying), “Οὕτως (Thus) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὡς (as) ἄνθρωπος (a man) βάλῃ (should cast) τὸν (the) σπόρον (seed) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ²⁷ καὶ (and) καθεύδῃ (should sleep) καὶ (and) ἐγείρηται (rise) νύκτα (night) καὶ (and) ἡμέραν (day), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) σπόρος (seed) βλαστᾷ (should sprout) καὶ (and) μηκύνηται (grow); ὡς (how) οὐκ (not) οἶδεν (knows) αὐτός (he). ²⁸ αὐτομάτη (Of itself), ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) καρποφορεῖ (brings forth fruit)— πρῶτον (first) χόρτον (a plant), εἶτα* (then) στάχυν (an ear), εἶτα* (then) πλήρης (full) σῖτον* (grain) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) στάχυϊ (ear). ²⁹ ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) παραδοῖ (offers itself) ὁ (the) καρπός (fruit), εὐθὺς (immediately) ἀποστέλλει (he sends) τὸ (the) δρέπανον (sickle), ὅτι (for) παρέστηκεν (has come) ὁ (the) θερισμός (harvest).” ³⁰ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying), “Πῶς (To what) ὁμοιώσωμεν (shall we liken) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God)? ἢ (Or) ἐν (in) τίνι (what) αὐτὴν (it) παραβολῇ (parable) θῶμεν (shall we present)? ³¹ ὡς (As) κόκκῳ (to a grain) σινάπεως (of mustard), ὃς (which), ὅταν (when) σπαρῇ (it has been sown) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), μικρότερον (smallest) ὂν (is) πάντων (of all) τῶν (the) σπερμάτων (seeds) τῶν (which are) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ³² καὶ (and) ὅταν (when) σπαρῇ (it has been sown), ἀναβαίνει (it grows up) καὶ (and) γίνεται (becomes) μεῖζον (greater) πάντων (than all) τῶν (the) λαχάνων (garden plants), καὶ (and) ποιεῖ (it produces) κλάδους (branches) μεγάλους (great), ὥστε (so that) δύνασθαι (are able) ὑπὸ (under) τὴν (the) σκιὰν (shadow) αὐτοῦ (of it) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) κατασκηνοῦν* (to perch).” ³³ Καὶ (And) τοιαύταις (with such) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλαῖς (many), ἐλάλει (He kept speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), καθὼς (as) ἠδύναντο (they were able) ἀκούειν (to hear). ³⁴ χωρὶς (Without) δὲ (then) παραβολῆς (parables), οὐκ (not) ἐλάλει (would He speak) αὐτοῖς (to them); κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private) δὲ (however), τοῖς (to His) ἰδίοις (own) μαθηταῖς (disciples) ἐπέλυεν (He would explain) πάντα (all things). ³⁵ Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (on) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day), ὀψίας (evening) γενομένης (having come), “Διέλθωμεν (Let us pass over) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) πέραν (other side).” ³⁶ καὶ (And) ἀφέντες (having dismissed) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd), παραλαμβάνουσιν (they take with them) αὐτὸν (Him) ὡς (since) ἦν (He was) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πλοίῳ (boat); καὶ (also) ἄλλα (other) πλοῖα (boats) ἦν (were) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him). ³⁷ Καὶ (And) γίνεται (comes) λαῖλαψ (a storm) μεγάλη (violent) ἀνέμου (of wind), καὶ (And) τὰ (the) κύματα (waves) ἐπέβαλλεν (were breaking) εἰς (over) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat), ὥστε (so that) ἤδη (already) γεμίζεσθαι (is being filled up) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat). ³⁸ καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) ἦν (was) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πρύμνῃ (stern), ἐπὶ (on) τὸ (the) προσκεφάλαιον (cushion) καθεύδων (sleeping). καὶ (And) ἐγείρουσιν (they awaken) αὐτὸν (Him) καὶ (and) λέγουσιν (say) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), οὐ (not) μέλει (is it concern) σοι (to You) ὅτι (that) ἀπολλύμεθα (we perish)?” ³⁹ Καὶ (And) διεγερθεὶς (having been awoken) ἐπετίμησεν (He rebuked) τῷ (the) ἀνέμῳ (wind) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) τῇ (to the) θαλάσσῃ (sea), “Σιώπα (Silence), πεφίμωσο (be still).” καὶ (And) ἐκόπασεν (abated) ὁ (the) ἄνεμος (wind), καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (there was) γαλήνη (a calm) μεγάλη (great). ⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) δειλοί (fearful) ἐστε (are you)? οὔπω* (Still not) ἔχετε (have you) πίστιν (faith)?” ⁴¹ Καὶ (And) ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) φόβον (with fear) μέγαν (great), καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (were saying) πρὸς (to) ἀλλήλους (each other), “Τίς (Who) ἄρα (then) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is), ὅτι (that) καὶ (even) ὁ (the) ἄνεμος (wind) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) ὑπακούει (obey) αὐτῷ (Him)?”
