Geneva(i) 1 Then Tobit wrote a prayer of reioycing, and sayd, Blessed be God that liueth for euer, and blessed be his kingdome. 2 For he doeth scourge, and hath pitie: he leadeth to hell, and bringeth vp, neither is there any that can auoyde his hand. 3 Cofesse him before the Gentiles, ye children of Israel: for he hath scattered you among them. 4 There declare his greatnesse, and extoll him before all the liuing: for he is our Lord & our God and our Father for euer. 5 He hath scourged vs for our iniquities, and will haue mercie againe, and wil gather vs out of all nations, among whome we are scattered. 6 If you turne to him with your whole heart, and with your whole minde, & deale vprightly before him, then will he turne vnto you, and will not hide his face from you, but ye shal see what he will doe with you: therefore confesse him with your whole mouth, & praise the Lord of righteousnes, & extoll the euerlasting King. I wil cofesse him in the land of my captiuitie, and will declare his power, & greatnes to a sinfull nation. O ye sinners, turne and do iustice before him: who can tell if he wil receiue you to mercy, and haue pitie on you? 7 I will extoll my God, and my soule shall prayse the King of heauen, and shall reioyce in his greatnesse. 8 Let all men speake, and let all praise him for his righteousnes. 9 O Ierusalem the holy citie, he will scourge thee for thy childrens works, but he will haue pitie againe on the sonnes of righteous men. 10 Giue prayse to the Lord duely, and praise the euerlasting King, that his tabernacle may be buylded in thee againe with ioy: and let him make ioyfull there in thee those that are captiues, and loue in thee for euer those that be miserable. 11 Many nations shall come from farre to the Name of the Lord God, with gifts in their handes, euen giftes to the King of heauen: all generations shal praise thee, and giue signes of ioy. 12 Cursed are al they, which haue thee: but blessed are they for euer which loue thee. 13 Reioyce, and be glad for the children of the iust: for they shalbe gathered, and shall blesse the Lord of the iust. 14 Blessed are they which loue thee: for they shall reioyce in thy peace. Blessed are they which haue bene sorowfull for all thy scourges: for they shal reioyce for thee, when they shal see all thy glorie, and shal reioyce for euer. 15 Let my soule blesse God the great King. 16 For Ierusalem shalbe built vp with sapphires, & emeraudes, and thy walles with precious stones, and thy towers, & thy bulwarkes with pure golde. 17 And the streetes of Ierusalem shall be paued with berall, & carbuncle, and stones of Ophir. 18 And all her streetes shal say, Halleluiah, and they shall prayse him, saying, Blessed be God which hath extolled it for euer.
Bishops(i) 1 Then olde Tobias opened his mouth & praysed the Lorde, & sayde: Great art thou O lord for euermore, and thy kingdome world with out end. 2 For thou scourgest and healest, thou leadest vnto hell & bringest out againe: and there is none that may escape thyne hande. 3 O geue thankes vnto the Lorde ye children of Israel, and prayse him in the sight of the heathen: 4 For among the heathen which knowe him not hath he scattered you, to the intent that ye should shew forth his marueilous workes, and cause them for to knowe that there is none other God almightie but he. 5 He hath chastened vs for our misdeedes, & for his owne mercie sake shall he saue vs. 6 Consider then how he hath dealt with you, and prayse him with feare & dread: and magnifie the euerlasting king in your workes. 7 I wyll prayse him euen in the lande of my captiuitie: for he hath shewed his maiestie vnto a sinfull people. 8 Turne you therfore O ye sinners, and do righteousnesse before God, and be ye sure that he wyll shew his mercy vpon you. 9 As for me and my soule, we wyll reioyce in God. 10 O prayse the Lorde all ye his chosen: hold the dayes of gladnesse, & be thankefull vnto him. 11 O Hierusalem thou citie of God, the lorde hath punished thee for the workes of thyne owne handes. 12 O prayse the Lord in thy good thinges, & geue thankes to the euerlasting God, that he may build vp his tabernacle againe in thee, that he may call againe vnto thee all such as be in captiuitie, and that thou mayest haue ioy for euermore. 13 With a faire light shalt thou shyne, and all the endes of the worlde shall honour thee. 14 The people shall come vnto thee from farre, they shall bring giftes, and worship the Lorde in thee, and thy land shal they haue for a sanctuary: for they shall call vpon the great name in thee. 15 Cursed shall they be that despise thee, and all that blaspheme thee shal be condempned: But blessed shall they be that builde thee vp. 16 As for thee thou shalt reioyce in thy children: for they all shalbe blessed, and gathered together vnto the Lorde. 17 Blessed are all they that loue thee, and that be glad of thy peace. 18 Prayse thou the Lorde, O my soule: for the Lorde our God hath deliuered his citie Hierusalem from all her troubles. 19 I wyll count my selfe happy, if my seede remayne to see the clearenes of Hierusalem. 20 The gates of Hierusalem shalbe builded with Saphir and Smaragde, and all the compasse of her walles with precious stones. 21 All her streates shalbe paued with white and fayre stone, and in all streates shall Halleluia be song. 22 Praysed be the Lorde which hath exalted her, that his kingdome may be vpon her for euermore, Amen.
DouayRheims(i) 1 And Tobias the elder opening his mouth, blessed the Lord, and said: Thou art great, O Lord, for ever, and thy kingdom is unto all ages: 2 For thou scourgest, and thou savest: thou leadest down to hell, and bringest up again: and there is none that can escape thy hand. 3 Give glory to the Lord, ye children of Israel, and praise him in the sight of the Gentiles: 4 Because he hath therefore scattered you among the Gentiles, who know not him, that you may declare his wonderful works, and make them know that there is no other almighty God besides him. 5 He hath chastised us for our iniquities: and he will save us for his own mercy. 6 See then what he hath done with us, and with fear and trembling give ye glory to him: and extol the eternal King of worlds in your works. 7 As for me, I will praise him in the land of my captivity: because he hath shewn his majesty toward a sinful nation. 8 Be converted therefore, ye sinners, and do justice before God, believing that he will shew his mercy to you. 9 And I and my soul will rejoice in him. 10 Bless ye the Lord, all his elect, keep days of joy, and give glory to him. 11 Jerusalem, city of God, the Lord hath chastised thee for the works of thy hands. 12 Give glory to the Lord for thy good things, and bless the God eternal, that he may rebuild his tabernacle in thee, and may call back all the captives to thee, and thou mayst rejoice for ever and ever. 13 Thou shalt shine with a glorious light: and all the ends of the earth shall worship thee. 14 Nations from afar shall come to thee: and shall bring gifts, and shall adore the Lord in thee, and shall esteem thy land as holy. 15 For they shall call upon the great name in thee. 16 They shall be cursed that shall despise thee: and they shall be condemned that shall blaspheme thee: and blessed shall they be that shall build thee up. 17 But thou shalt rejoice in thy children, because they shall all be blessed, and shall be gathered together to the Lord. 18 Blessed are all they that love thee, and that rejoice in thy peace. 19 My soul, bless thou the Lord, because the Lord our God hath delivered Jerusalem his city from all her troubles. 20 Happy shall I be if there shall remain of my seed, to see the glory of Jerusalem. 21 The gates of Jerusalem shall be built of sapphire, and of emerald, and all the walls thereof round about of precious stones. 22 All its streets shall be paved with white and clean stones: and Alleluia shall be sung in its streets. 23 Blessed be the Lord, who hath exalted it, and may he reign over it for ever and ever, Amen.
