As long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they remained encamped. ¹⁹ When the smoke stayed over the tent for a long time, the Israelites obeyed the LORD's command and did not break camp. ²⁰ Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle for a number of days. At the bidding of Yahweh they encamped, and at the bidding of Yahweh they journeyed. ²¹ Sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning; and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they traveled; or by day and by night, when the cloud was taken up, they traveled. ²² Whether two days, a month, or days longer that the cloud remains above the tabernacle, the Israelites would camp and not travel. But when it is lifted up, then they would travel.
