Joshua 10:10-43

VIN(i) 10 the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel. They were killed in a great battle at Gibeon. They were chased along the road that goes up to Beth-horon. They were slaughtered all the way to Azekah, and Makkedah. 11 While they were fleeing in front of Israel and descending the slope of Beth-horon, the LORD rained down huge hailstones on them as far as Azekah, and they died. More died because of the hailstones than were killed by the Israelites in battle. 12 Then Joshua spoke to the LORD, on the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun in Gibeon, stand still, and moon, in the valley of Aijalon." 13 The sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Isn't this written in the book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and didn't hurry to go down about a whole day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD was fighting on behalf of Israel. 15 And Josue returned, with all Israel, into the camp of Galgal. 16 And these five kings flee, and are hidden in a cave at Makkedah, 17 Joshua was told, saying, “The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.” 18 Joshua said, "Roll large stones to the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to guard them; 19 but do not stay. Pursue your enemies, and attack them from the rear. Do not allow them to enter into their cities; for the LORD your God has delivered them into your hand." 20 When Joshua and the children of Israel finished slaying them those who escaped entered the fortified cities. 21 the entire army returned safely to Joshua's encampment at Makkedah. No one could speak so much as a single word against any of the Israelites. 22 Then Joshua said: "Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings to me." 23 They did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon. 24 And when they brought these kings to Joshua, Joshua called all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of the fighting men who had gone with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." So they came near and put their feet on their necks. 25 Joshua said: "Do not be afraid. Do not be terrified! Be strong and have courage: for this is what the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight." 26 Afterward Joshua struck and killed them. He hanged them on five trees: and they hung on the trees until evening. 27 At sunset Joshua commanded that they remove them. They took them down from the trees, and cast them into the cave where they had been hidden. They laid large stones in the mouth of the cave. Even today the stones are there. 28 That day Joshua took Makkedah, and put it and its king to the sword; every soul in it he gave up to the curse without mercy: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho. 29 Joshua, and all Israel with him, marched from Makeda to Lebna and besieged it; 30 And again the Lord gave it and its king into the hands of Israel; and he put it and every person in it to the sword, till their destruction was complete; and he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho. 31 Then Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Libnah to Lachish, and took up their position against it and made an attack on it, 32 And the Lord gave Lachish into the hands of Israel, and on the second day he took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword without mercy, as he had done to Libnah. 33 Then Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, and Joshua smote him and his people until none of them were left. 34 And Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Lachish to Eglon: and they took up their position against it and made an attack on it; 35 And took it the same day: and put to the sword all the souls that were in it, according to all that he had done to Lachis. 36 And Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron, and made an attack on it; 37 and captured it, and struck it by the mouth of the sword, and its king, and all its cities, and every person in it; he did not leave a survivor, according to all that he did to Eglon, and destroyed it and every person in it. 38 And Joshua and all Israel with him went on to make an attack on Debir; 39 And he took it, with its king and all its towns: and he put them to the sword, giving every person in it to the curse; all were put to death: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king. 40 So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, and the Negev, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded. 41 Joshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen up to Gibeon; 42 All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the LORD the God of Israel fought for Israel. 43 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him to the camp at Gilgal.
