Deuteronomy 14

VIN(i) 1 "You are the sons of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves nor shave your forehead for the sake of the dead. 2 »You are a holy people to the LORD your God. Out of all the people on the face of the earth the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession. 3 "Do not eat any detestable thing. 4 "These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, 5 the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope (chamois) and the mountain sheep. 6 "You may eat any animal that divides the hoof and has the hoof split in two and chews the cud. 7 Nevertheless of those that chew the cud, or of those that have the hoof cloven, these you will not eat: the camel and the hare and the coney, because they chew the cud but do not part the hoof, they are unclean to you, 8 The pig, because it has a split hoof but doesn’t chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat their meat. You shall not touch their carcasses. 9 These you shall eat of all in the waters: you shall eat all that have fins and scales. 10 But anything that does not have fins and scales, you may not eat, for it is unclean for you. 11 "You may eat any clean bird. 12 But these are the ones you must not eat: the eagle, the vulture and the osprey, 13 and the red kite and the black kite or any kind of falcon, 14 any kind of raven, 15 the ostrich, the screech owl, the gull and the hawk, all of its kind, 16 the little owl, the great owl, the horned owl, 17 the pelican, the vulture, the cormorant, 18 the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe, and the bat. 19 All winged animals that creep are unclean to you; ye shall not eat of them. 20 Every winged creature being clean you shall eat. 21 "Do not eat anything that dies by itself. You may give it to the alien who is in your town, so that he may eat it. You may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. Do not boil a young goat in its mother's milk. 22 Put on one side a tenth of all the increase of your seed, produced year by year. 23 "You shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God, at the place where He chooses to establish his name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to respect the LORD your God always. 24 If the way is too long for you, so that when the LORD your God shall bless you, you are not able to carry it because the place which the LORD your God shall choose to set His name there is too far from you, 25 "If so, exchange the tenth part of your income for silver. Take the silver with you, and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you want: cattle, sheep, goats, wine, liquor-whatever you choose. Then you and your family will eat and enjoy yourselves there in the presence of the LORD your God. 27 »Do not neglect the Levites who live in your towns. They have no property of their own. 28 "At the end of every third year bring the tithe of all your crops and store it in your towns. 29 And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the alien, and the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates shall come and shall eat and be satisfied; so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
