Isaiah 17

ISV(i) 1 A word about Damascus… "Look! Damascus is being removed as a city. It shall become a pile of ruins. 2 Abandoned are the cities of Aroer {— } they shall be devoted to herds that will lie down, and terrorism shall be no more. 3 The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, the kingdom from Damascus, and survivors from Syria, during the time of the glory of the Israelites," declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. 4 "At that time, Jacob's glory will have become weakened, and the strength of its flesh will become gaunt, 5 It will be like when harvesters gather grain, reaping the ears by hand, or it will be like when grain was harvested in the valley of the Rephaim. 6 Nevertheless, gleanings will remain there, as when one harvests an olive tree {— } two or three ripe olives left in the topmost branches, four or five left among the branches of a fruit-filled tree," declares the LORD God of Israel. 7 At that time, a man will look toward his Maker, and his eyes will honor the Holy One of Israel. 8 He will not look to altars made by his own hands, nor to what his fingers have crafted, whether they be Asherim or incense altar. 9 At that time their fortified cities will be like a desolate forest, or a summit that has been abandoned because of the Israelites. Desolation will be there. 10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation and you have not remembered the stronghold that is your strength, therefore you will plant delightful plants but you will sow them with alien seed. 11 At the time that you plant it, you will carefully make it grow. In the morning you will cause your seed to sprout {— } but the harvest will be a small one in a time of sickness and unbearable pain. 12 Woe to the multitude of many people, who roar like the sea, and to the rushing nations, who rush like rapid, strong water 13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters, but the LORD will rebuke them, and they will run a long distance away, chased like chaff blown down from the mountains or like trash that rolls along, blown along by a wind storm. 14 When the evening arrives, watch out! There will be terror! By morning they will be no more! So it will be for those who plunder us; this is what will happen to those who rob us.
