Joshua 7:1-5 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted thing; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted thing: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the children of Israel.

2 H3091 And Joshua H7971 sent H582 men H3405 from Jericho H5857 to Ai, H5973 which is beside H1007 Beth-aven, H6924 on the east side H1008 of Beth-el, H559 and spake H559 unto them, saying, H5927 Go up H7270 and spy H776 out the land. H582 And the men H5927 went up H7270 and spied H5857 out Ai.

3 H7725 And they returned H3091 to Joshua, H559 and said H5971 unto him, Let not all the people H5927 go up; H7969 but let about two or three H505 thousand H376 men H5927 go up H5221 and smite H5857 Ai; H5971 make not all the people H3021 to toil H4592 thither; for they are but few.

4 H5927 So there went up H5971 thither of the people H7969 about three H505 thousand H376 men: H5127 and they fled H6440 before H582 the men H5857 of Ai.

5 H582 And the men H5857 of Ai H5221 smote H7970 of them about thirty H8337 and six H376 men; H7291 and they chased H6440 them from before H8179 the gate H7671 even unto Shebarim, H5221 and smote H4174 them at the descent; H3824 and the hearts H5971 of the people H4549 melted, H4325 and became as water.
