¹ And a cry of the people and their wives will be great against their brethren the Jews. ² Yes, they who say, We, our sons and our daughters, are many; and we take crop to eat and live. ³ Others were saying, "We're having to mortgage our fields, our vineyards, and our homes so we can buy grain during this famine." ⁴ And others there were that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards. ⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. We are powerless, and our fields and vineyards belong to others." ⁶ And when I heard their cry, and these words, I was very angry. ⁷ I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them, ⁸ And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brothers the Jews, which were sold to the heathen; and will you even sell your brothers? or shall they be sold to us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer. ⁹ So I said, "What you're doing isn't right! Shouldn't you live in the fear of our God to avoid shame from our foreign enemies? ¹⁰ Also, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Please stop taking this interest. ¹¹ So today please restore to them their fields, vineyards, olive orchards, and homes, along with the one percent interest charge that you've assessed them on the grain, wine, and oil." ¹² So they said, "We will restore it and will not request anything more. So we will do as you say." Then I called the priests and made them take an oath to do this promise. ¹³ Shaking out the folds of my robe, I said: "So, may God send out from his house and his work every man who does not keep this agreement. Even so let him be sent out and made as nothing." All the people said: "Amen!" They praised the LORD. The people did as they said. ¹⁴ Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor. ¹⁵ But the former governors that were before me laid burdens upon the people, and took of them for bread and wine above forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants lorded over the people; but so did not I, because of the fear of God. ¹⁶ I also devoted myself to the work of this wall, and we did not buy land. All of my servants were gathered for the work. ¹⁷ There is more, a hundred and fifty of the Jews and the rulers were guests at my table, in addition to those who came to us from the nations nearby. ¹⁸ Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days abundant stores of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the food allowance of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people. ¹⁹ "Remember me with favor, my God, for everything I've done for this people."

⁷ The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

²⁵ "When you lend money to any of my people who are poor, do not act like a moneylender and require him to pay interest. ²⁶ If you take your neighbor's coat as collateral, you shall return it to him by sunset, ²⁷ because it is his only garment; it is his cloak for his skin. In what will he sleep? And when he cries out to me, I will hear, because I am gracious.

³⁵ " 'And if your countryman becomes poor and if he becomes dependent on you, then you shall support him like an alien and like a temporary resident, and he shall live with you. ³⁶ Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live among you. ³⁷ You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.

⁷ "If there should be a poor man among your relatives in one of the cities of the land that the LORD your God is about to give you, don't be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your poor relative. ⁸ But let your hand be open to give him the use of whatever he is in need of. ⁹ "Be careful not to think this wicked thought to yourselves: 'The seventh year, the year of remission, is drawing near,' and you show ill will toward your poor relative and not give to him. He may then call to the LORD on account of you, and you will be guilty of sin. ¹⁰ You must surely give to him, and your heart must not be grieved when you give to him, because for this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command you to surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

³⁸ If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten its yield without payment, and caused the death of its owners;

²⁸ But they caused the cry of the poor to be brought before Him, So that He heard the cry of the humble.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah is the plantation of his delight. And he waited for justice, but look! Bloodshed! For righteousness, but look! A cry of distress!

⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

²⁶ The next day he came upon two Israelites who were fighting, and he tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating one another?’

⁶ Instead, one brother goes to law against another, and this in front of unbelievers! ⁷ The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? ⁸ Instead, you yourselves defraud and do wrong, and you even do this to your brethren.

⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.

⁵⁷ And all the countries came into Egypt to buy corn of Joseph; because the famine was sore in all the countries.

² He said, "Look, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may live, and not die."

⁸ Then Judah said to Israel, his father, Send the boy with me, and let us be up and going, so that we and you and our little ones may not come to destruction.

³ Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a blessing from him. ⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. ⁵ Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They shall not be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

² for you eat the labor of your palms; blithed - and good with you ³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house. Your children will be like olive shoots about your table. ⁴ Look, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

² If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart to give glory to my name," says the LORD of hosts, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because you are not taking it to heart.

¹⁵ And when the money was spent in the land of Egypt and from the land of Canaan, all of Egypt came to Joseph, saying, "Give us food! Why should we die before you? For the money is used up." ¹⁶ And Joseph said, "Give your livestock and I will give you food in exchange for your livestock if your money is used up." ¹⁷ They brought their livestock to Joseph. He gave them food in exchange for their horses, sheep, goats, cattle, and donkeys. That year he supplied them with food in exchange for all their livestock. ¹⁸ When that year ended, they came to him in the following year and said to him, "We cannot hide from my lord that our money and livestock belong to my lord. Nothing remains before my lord except our bodies and our land. ¹⁹ Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land won't be desolate." ²⁰ So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians, every man, sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. And the land became Pharaoh's. ²¹ And he appointed the people unto the cities, from one side of Egypt unto the other: ²² Only he did not buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land. ²³ And Joseph said to the people, "Look, I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Here is seed for you so you can sow the land. ²⁴ And of the increase, ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed to sow the field: and for you, and them of your households, and for your children, to eat." ²⁵ And they said, "You have saved our lives. If we have found favor in the eyes of my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh."

⁷ "If there should be a poor man among your relatives in one of the cities of the land that the LORD your God is about to give you, don't be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your poor relative.

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings. ⁹ You are cursed under the curse the entire nation because you are robbing me!" ¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this,” says the LORD of Armies, “if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there will not be room enough for. ¹¹ "I will not let insects destroy your crops. Your grapevines will produce abundantly.

⁴⁷ "Because you didn't serve the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly, despite the abundance of everything you have, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.

¹⁰ They didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim to this day, and became servants to do forced labour.

²¹ their children who remained after them in the land, whom the Israelites were not able to completely destroy, Solomon conscripted them for forced labor, until this very day.

¹³ Now be it known to the king that if this city is built and the walls are finished, they will not pay tribute and toll, and the royal revenue will be reduced.

²⁰ and mighty kings have been over Jerusalem, even rulers over all beyond the river, and toll, tribute, and custom is given to them.

²⁴ Also we inform you that it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll, on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants, or laborers of this house of God.

³⁷ But now its abundant produce belongs to the kings whom you placed over us because of our sin. They also have power over our bodies and our herds at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

¹⁴ Laban said: "You are indeed my own flesh and blood." Jacob stayed there a whole month.

²⁷ "Let us sell him to the Ishmaelites. Let us not hurt him, because he is our brother, our own flesh and blood." His brothers agreed.

¹ These are the laws which thou shalt set before them: ² "If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years and in the seventh he shall go out free without paying anything. ³ If he came in alone, he shall go out alone: if he had a wife, then his wife shall go out with him. ⁴ "If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children will belong to her master. He shall go out alone. ⁵ And if the servant shall say: I love my master and my wife and children, I will not go out free: ⁶ Then let his master bring him unto the judges and set him to the door or the doorpost, and bore his ear through with an awl, and let him be his servant forever. ⁷ "If a man sell his daughter to be a servant: she shall not go out as the menservants do. ⁸ If she's displeasing to her master who selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He does not have the right to sell her to foreign people because he has dealt unfairly with her. ⁹ If he marries her to his son, he shall deal with her as a daughter. ¹⁰ If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marital rights. ¹¹ If he doesn’t do these three things for her, she may go free without paying any money.

³⁹ "'If your brother has grown poor among you, and sells himself to you; you shall not make him to serve as a slave. ⁴⁰ He shall be with you like a hired worker, like a temporary resident; he shall work with you until the Year of Jubilee. ⁴¹ Then he will go out from you, he and his children with him, and go back to his family and to the property of his fathers. ⁴² Because they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; he must not be sold as a slave. ⁴³ "'Do not treat them harshly. Respect your God.

¹ And one of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant feared the Lord; and the creditor has come to take my two sons to be his servants.

⁷ "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house? When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh?

²⁵ And as he was not able to pay, his master ordered that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.

⁵ Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court?

⁸ All these officials of yours will come down to me, prostrate themselves to me, and say, 'Get out, you and all the people following you!' After that I'll go out." Then Moses angrily left Pharaoh.

¹⁵ Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, "Do not respect their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them."

⁸ It grieved me severely. Therefore I threw all Tobiah's household stuff out of the room.

²⁵ So I quarreled with them and cursed them and beat some of their men and pulled out their hair. I made them take an oath by God: "Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

⁵ And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man: Stretch out your hand. He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

²⁶ In your anger, do not sin! Do not let the sun set while you remain angry.

²⁵ "When you lend money to any of my people who are poor, do not act like a moneylender and require him to pay interest.

¹⁵ "'Do no injustice in judgment. Do not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great. Judge your neighbor fairly.

³⁶ Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live among you.

² This is the way it shall be done: every creditor shall release that which he has lent to his neighbor. He shall not require payment from his neighbor and his brother, because the LORD's release has been proclaimed. ³ You may exact payment from a foreigner, but cancel whatever your brother owes you.

¹⁹ "Do not charge interest to your brothers, interest on money, food, anything that may be loaned at interest. ²⁰ You may charge a foreigner interest; but you shall not your brother interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you put your hand to, in the land where you go in to possess it.

¹⁰ When you loan a loan of any kind to your brother, you shall not go into his house to bring forth his pledge. ¹¹ Stay outside and let the man to whom you made the loan bring it out to you. ¹² If he is a poor man, don't go to sleep with his collateral in your possession. ¹³ Be sure to return his garment to him at sunset so that he may sleep with it, and he will bless you. It will be a righteous deed before the LORD your God.

⁶ And he said to the judges, Take heed what you do. For you do not judge for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment. ⁷ So let the fear of the LORD rest upon you, be on your guard, and act carefully, because with the LORD our God there is neither injustice, nor partiality, nor bribery."

⁹ But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Look, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven. ¹⁰ »Now you intend to enslave the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem. But are you not also guilty of sinning against the LORD your God? ¹¹ So now, listen to me and return the captives of your brothers whom you have taken captive, for the fierce anger of Yahweh is against you." ¹² Then rose up certain of the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim—Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai,—against them who were coming in from the army; ¹³ And they said to them, You shall not bring the captives here. For we have offended the LORD, and you intend to add to our sins and to our trespass. For our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.

⁴ Be disturbed but do not sin. Commune in your heart on your bed and be silent. Selah

¹ LORD, who shall dwell in your sanctuary? Who shall live on your holy hill?

⁵ He does not lend his money at interest, and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

⁸ My heart says to You, Seek my face; Your face, O LORD, I will seek;

¹ A Psalm by Asaph. God presides in the great assembly. He judges among the gods. ² "How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?" Selah. ³ Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. ⁴ Rescue the weak and needy, deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

⁵ Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

¹² They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD.

⁹ "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'I have had enough of you, you princes of Israel.' "'Stop your violence and looting, and do what is fair and right. Stop evicting my people,' declares the Sovereign LORD.

¹⁷ If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

¹⁶ So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

¹¹ But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly wrong.

²⁰ Those who are guilty reprove in public, so that others may be warned.

¹⁵ These are the things you should teach. Encourage and refute with full authority. Do not let anyone look down on you.

¹⁶ Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

⁴⁷ If an alien or temporary resident with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him has grown poor, and sells himself to the stranger or foreigner living among you, or to a member of the stranger's family; ⁴⁸ he may be redeemed after he is sold. One of his brothers may redeem him. ⁴⁹ or his uncle or his uncle's son may redeem him, or one of his close relatives from his clan may redeem him; or if he prospers, he may redeem himself.

⁷ "If a man is caught kidnapping somebody from among his countrymen, the Israelites, and he treats him as a slave or he sells him, then that kidnapper shall die, and so you shall purge the evil from among you.

¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

¹⁵ They are broken; they answer no more; words have left them.

¹² ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless.

¹⁵ To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.

²⁹ For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

¹⁵ If your brother is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother, for whom Christ died.

¹¹ So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. ¹² For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

¹⁰ Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to those who belong to the household of faith.

⁷ Quarreling arose between Abram's herdsmen and the herdsmen of Lot. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time. ⁸ Abram said to Lot: "Let us not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers.

¹¹ And Abraham will say, For I said, Surely there is not the fear of God in this place; and they will kill me because of my wife.

¹⁸ On the third day Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live; I fear God.

²⁴ No my sons, it is no good report that I hear; you make the LORD's people disobey.

¹⁴ But because you have utterly scorned the LORD in this matter, the son born for you will certainly die."

⁴ “Hear, our God; for we are despised. Turn back their reproach on their own head. Give them up for a plunder in a land of captivity.

¹⁵ But the former governors that were before me laid burdens upon the people, and took of them for bread and wine above forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants lorded over the people; but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

²⁹ A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him into the way that is not good.

²⁶ Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.

⁵ It is not good to be partial to the wicked, or to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

² It isn't good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one's feet and missing the way.

²³ These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.

²⁰ "Wherever they went among the nations, they dishonored my holy name. People said about them: 'These are the LORD's people, yet they had to leave his land.'

³¹ Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria experienced a time of peace. It grew in strength and numbers, living in the fear of the Lord and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit.

²⁴ As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

¹⁴ So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their homes, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach.

⁵ to be chaste and holy, and to take good care of their households, and to be obedient to their husbands; so that no one may reproach the word of God.

¹² Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.

⁷ I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them,

⁸ he lendeth nothing upon usury; he taketh nothing over; he withdraweth his hand from doing wrong; he handleth faithfully betwixt man and man;

¹³ That giveth upon usury, and that taketh an increase: shall such a one live? he shall not live. Seeing he hath done all these detestable things, he shall surely die, his blood shall be upon him.

¹ Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.

¹³ “Collect no more than you are authorized,” he answered. ¹⁴ Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”

¹² If others have this right to your support, shouldn’t we have it all the more But we did not exercise this right. Instead, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Do you not know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? ¹⁴ In the same way, the Lord has prescribed that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel. ¹⁵ But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting. ¹⁶ Yet when I preach the gospel, I have no reason to boast, because I am obligated to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ For if I transact this voluntarily, I have a reward: but if involuntarily, an administration is entrusted to me. ¹⁸ What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not use up my rights in preaching it.

¹¹ Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.

²⁰ So then, we are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God!

¹ As God’s fellow workers, we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.

⁸ Hence, although in Christ I would feel quite free to order you to do your duty, ⁹ I prefer to appeal to you on the ground of love. Well then, as Paul the old man, who now-a-days is a prisoner for Christ Jesus,

⁴ you have sinned and are guilty. Return what you stole or seized, what you were supposed to take care of, the lost item you found, ⁵ or whatever it was that you swore falsely about. Pay it back in full plus one-fifth more. Give it back to its owner on the day you bring your guilt offering.

³ Here I am. Witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Of whose hand have I taken a bribe to make me blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”

⁶ He shall restore the ewe fourfold, because he did this thing, and had no pity.

³ Others were saying, "We're having to mortgage our fields, our vineyards, and our homes so we can buy grain during this famine." ⁴ And others there were that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke

⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

² And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, from the smallest to the greatest; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD. ³ The king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book; and all the people agreed to the covenant.

²² "If a man sins against his neighbor and obliges him to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before your altar in this house; ²³ then hear from Heaven, and do, and judge Your servants by repaying the wicked, by bringing his way back on his own head, and by justifying the righteous, by giving to him according to his righteousness.

¹³ And that whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. ¹⁴ And they took an oath to the LORD with a great voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with horns.

¹⁴ So the soldiers left the captives and the plunder before the commanders and all the assembly. ¹⁵ The men mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, and gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.

⁵ So Ezra arose and made the priests' chiefs, the Levites and all Israel swear to do according to this word. And they swore.

¹² Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, "As you have said concerning us, so must we do.

²⁹ they clung to their brothers, their ranking men, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of LORD our Lord, and his or

³¹ As for the people of the land who bring merchandise or grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. We will forego planting crops, and we will cancel debts during every seventh year.

⁸ The Word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after King Zedekiah had cut a covenant with all the people at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them, ⁹ Everyone was supposed to free his Hebrew slaves, both male and female. No one was supposed to keep another Jew as a slave. ¹⁰ All the officials and all the people who had entered into the covenant agreed that each would set his male and female slaves free so that they would not enslave them any longer. They obeyed and they released them.

²¹ Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.” ²² When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.

⁶³ But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

⁸ Now Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone of anything, I repay them quadruple.

²² "'May this water that can bring a curse go into your body and make your stomach swell and your uterus drop!'" Then the woman will say: "Amen!" "Amen!"

¹⁴ "The Levites will answer all the men of Israel with a loud voice: ¹⁵ Cursed is the man who makes any image of wood or stone or metal, disgusting to the Lord, the work of man's hands, and puts it up in secret. And let all the people say, So be it. ¹⁶ Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen! ¹⁷ "'Cursed is he who moves his neighbor's boundary mark. All the people will say: Amen. ¹⁸ 'Cursed is he who leads the blind astray on the road.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ¹⁹ 'Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁰ 'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he dishonors his father's bed.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²¹ 'Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with any animal. "Then all the people will respond by saying, 'Amen!' ²² 'Cursed be the one who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²³ Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁴ Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor secretly! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁵ 'Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁶ 'Cursed is he who doesn't uphold the words of this law by doing them.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'”

²⁸ And Samuel said to him, the LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to your neighbor who is better than you.

²⁹ And it chanced, at that season, as Jeroboam was gone out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite met him by the way, having a new mantle on him, and they two alone in the field. ³⁰ Ahijah took hold of the new cloak which was on him and tore it into twelve pieces. ³¹ Then he told Jeroboam, "Take ten pieces for yourself, because this is what the LORD God of Israel says: 'Pay attention! I'm going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon's control and give you ten tribes.

³ The king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book; and all the people agreed to the covenant.

³⁶ Blessed be the LORD the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!" Then all the people said, "Amen!" and praised the LORD.

⁶ Then Ezra blessed the LORD the great God, and all of the people answered, "Amen! Amen!" while lifting their hands. Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their noses to the ground.

¹⁴ Offer thanksgiving to God; and pay your vows to the Most High.

¹¹ Make vows to the LORD your God, and fulfill them. Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.

¹⁰⁶ I have sworn, and have confirmed it, that I will obey your righteous ordinances.

⁵ It is better not to vow, than to vow and not perform.

³ He responded to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the surface of the whole earth, because, according to this side of the scroll, all thieves will be ejected, and according to the other side of the scroll, all liars will be ejected." ⁴ I will cause it to go out," says the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the midst of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

¹⁴ And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.

⁵¹ So they shook the dust off their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.

⁶ But when they began to oppose him and insult him, he shook out his clothes in protest and told them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the gentiles."

¹³ Now be it known to the king that if this city is built and the walls are finished, they will not pay tribute and toll, and the royal revenue will be reduced. ¹⁴ Now, since we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not right for us to see the king`s injury, therefore have we sent and informed the king;

¹ In the month Nisan in the twentieth year of king Artaxerxes, when the wine stood before him, I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king and I was heavy in his presence.

⁶ But in all this, I was not at Jerusalem; for in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I went to the king; and after some days I asked leave of the king,

⁶ This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work. ⁷ Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

⁴ Do we not have the right to food and drink? ⁵ We have the right to take a believing wife with us like the other apostles, the Lord's brothers, and Cephas, don't we? ⁶ Or have only I and Barnabas no right not to be working? ⁷ Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Who tends a flock and does not drink of its milk? ⁸ Do I say this merely from a human point of view? Does not the Law say the same thing? ⁹ For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.” Is it about oxen that God is concerned? ¹⁰ Isn’t He actually speaking on our behalf? Indeed, this was written for us, because when the plowman plows and the thresher threshes, they should also expect to share in the harvest. ¹¹ If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? ¹² If others have this right to your support, shouldn’t we have it all the more But we did not exercise this right. Instead, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Do you not know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? ¹⁴ In the same way, the Lord has prescribed that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel. ¹⁵ But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting.

¹⁸ What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not use up my rights in preaching it.

⁸ nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you. ⁹ We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves an example for you to follow.

¹⁵ But even before they burned the fat, the servant of the priest would come and say to the person offering the sacrifice, "Give me meat to roast for the priest. He won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw." ¹⁶ If the man said to him, Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as you want; he would say, No, give it to me now, and if you don't, I will take it by force. ¹⁷ The sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for the men despised the LORD's offering.

¹⁵ He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage to give to his officers and his servants.

⁹ So I said, "What you're doing isn't right! Shouldn't you live in the fear of our God to avoid shame from our foreign enemies?

²³ For I feared destruction from God, against whose highness I could have no power.

¹ Praise Yah! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD; he takes great delight in his commands.

¹¹ the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope for his loyal love.

⁶ Through kindness and truth is iniquity atoned for; and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

¹² If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.

¹³ Now that all has been heard, here is the final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. ¹⁴ For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

¹⁰ Who among you fears the LORD, who obeys the voice of His servant, who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rest on his God.

⁴⁷ And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same?

² He said: "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man. ³ And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' ⁴ For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God or respect men,

⁹ And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so.

¹³ In what way were you inferior to the other churches, except that I was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong!

¹⁵ But the seeds on good soil are those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, cling to it, and by persevering produce a crop.

³³ I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. ³⁴ You yourselves know that these hands of mine have ministered to my own needs and those of my companions. ³⁵ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

⁷ To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

¹⁶ Be that as it may, I was not a burden to you; but crafty as I am, I caught you by trickery. ¹⁷ Did I make gain of you through any of those whom I sent to you? ¹⁸ I urged Titus to visit you, and I sent our brother with him. Did Titus exploit you in any way? Did we not walk in the same spirit and follow in the same footsteps?

⁹ And let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give up.

²⁰ I do not have anyone else like him who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. ²¹ For everyone else is looking out for his own interests, not for those of Jesus Christ.

⁵ For, as you know, we never used flattery nor a pretext for greed God is witness ⁶ or to seek glory from men (whether from you or from others) —as apostles of Christ we could have been ‘heavy’,

⁷ "Don't be afraid," David reassured him, "because I'm going to show gracious love to you in memory of your father Jonathan. I'm going to restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you'll always have a place at my table!"

¹³ And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem. For he always sat at the king's table. And he was lame in both his feet.

¹⁹ Now therefore send and gather to me all Israel unto Mount Carmel, and the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of the groves, who eat at Jezebel’s table.

⁸ But the noble thinks noble things; and by noble things he shall stand.

¹³ Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.

⁹ Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. ¹⁰ As each has received a gift, minister it to one another as good administrators of God’s varied grace.

²² Solomon's daily provisions were 30 kors of fine flour, 60 kors of meal, ²³ Also needed were ten stall-fed cattle, twenty pasture-fed cattle, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fowl (cuckoo).

¹⁴ Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor. ¹⁵ But the former governors that were before me laid burdens upon the people, and took of them for bread and wine above forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants lorded over the people; but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

²¹ The wicked borrow, and do not pay back, but the righteous give generously.

²⁶ He is always generous and lends freely. His descendants are a blessing.

¹⁴ "Remember me when things go well for you. Please do me a favor. Mention me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.

¹⁴ Remember me, my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for its observances.

²² Then I commanded the Levites to purify themselves and to come as gate keepers to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember me, my God, and show mercy to me according to the greatness of your gracious love.

³¹ And provided for the wood offering, at appointed times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.

²³ and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. ²⁵ With the faithful you show yourself faithful. With the blameless man you show yourself blameless.

⁶ Remember, O LORD, Your compassions and Your mercies; for they are from eternity. ⁷ Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to your mercy remember me for your goodness' sake, O LORD.

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy. Let my Lord consider me. You are my help and my deliverer. O my God, do not delay.

⁴ Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people. Look after me when you deliver,

¹¹ For I know the plans that I have for you,' says the LORD, 'plans for your welfare, and not for calamity, to give you hope and a future.

⁴² And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

³⁴ Then the King will say to those at His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. ³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, ³⁶ I was unclothed and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

⁴¹ For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, will by no means lose his reward.
