¹ My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me.

¹¹ What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

¹³ If I wait, the grave is my house: I have made my bed in the darkness. ¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father: to the worm, You are my mother, and my sister.

¹⁷ My breath is repulsive to my wife, though I make supplication for the children of my own body.

¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

³ For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draws near unto the grave. ⁴ I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that has no strength: ⁵ Adrift among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom you remember no more: and they are cut off from your hand.

¹⁰ I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the rest of my years. ¹¹ I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. ¹² My age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off from the loom: from day even to night will you make an end of me. ¹³ I considered till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night will you make an end of me. ¹⁴ Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: my eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, neither will I be always angry: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.
