¹ Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, ² How long will it be before you make an end of words? consider, and afterwards we will speak. ³ Why are we counted as beasts, and regarded as vile in your sight? ⁴ He tears himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for you? and shall the rock be removed out of its place? ⁵ Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp shall be put out with him. ⁷ The steps of his strength shall be shortened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. ⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks upon a snare. ⁹ The trap shall take him by the heel, and a snare shall lay hold of him. ¹⁰ The noose is laid for him on the ground, and a trap for him in the way. ¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet. ¹² His strength shall be hunger-bitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side. ¹³ It shall devour patches of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. ¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tent, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ They shall dwell in his tent, who are none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. ¹⁷ His memory shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. ²⁰ They that come after him shall be astounded at his day, as they that went before were frightened. ²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knows not God.

¹¹ Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

¹ Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. ⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it. ⁶ As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest.

² How long will you speak these things? and how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom. ⁶ Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

² I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are you all. ³ Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldens you that you answer?

² Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolation.

¹ Therefore, Job, I pray you, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

¹³ He that answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame unto him.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger:

⁷ But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you: ⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fish of the sea shall declare unto you.

⁴ For you have hidden their heart from understanding: therefore shall you not exalt them.

¹⁰ But as for you all, do you return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

²² So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before you.

¹⁸ I said in my heart concerning the condition of the sons of men, that God might reveal them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

¹⁰ Be tender loving one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

² For wrath kills the foolish man, and envy slays the simple one.

¹⁴ Why do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?

¹⁸ And surely the mountain falling, comes to nothing, and the rock is removed out of its place.

⁹ He tears me in his wrath, who hates me: he gnashes upon me with his teeth; my enemy sharpens his eyes upon me.

⁸ Will you also annul my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

¹⁰ For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, says the LORD that has mercy on you.

⁹ Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD sees not.

⁹ And God said to Jonah, Do you do well to be angry about the plant? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

¹⁸ And wherever he takes him, he throws him down: and he foams, and gnashes with his teeth, and wastes away: and I spoke to your disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

³⁹ And, lo, a spirit takes him, and he suddenly cries out; and it convulses him so that he foams again, and bruising him seldom departs from him.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

¹⁷ How often is the lamp of the wicked put out! and how often comes their destruction upon them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in utter darkness.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that encircle yourselves with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This shall you have of my hand; you shall lie down in sorrow.

²⁸ For you will light my lamp: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

²³ And the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all nations deceived.

³¹ And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had purposed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their plans. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the cunning is quickly ended.

⁶ Your own mouth condemns you, and not I: yea, your own lips testify against you.

²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in distress: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.

¹⁶ Even so would he have removed you out of the distress into a broad place, where there is no restraint; and that which should be set on your table should be full of richness.

³⁶ You have enlarged my path under me, that my feet did not slip.

¹⁰ The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing: he makes the devices of the people of none effect.

³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. ³² For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

¹² When you go, your steps shall not be hindered; and when you run, you shall not stumble.

⁶ It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness.

⁹ If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries.

¹³ And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the descendants of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him.

⁵ Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that dares presume in his heart to do so?

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath abated.

¹⁰ Therefore snares are round about you, and sudden fear troubles you;

¹⁵ The nations are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

⁸ Let destruction come upon him unawares; and let his net that he has hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.

⁶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous does sing and rejoice.

³ Thus says the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over you with a company of many people; and they shall bring you up in my net.

⁷ Moreover he must have a good report of them who are outside; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

⁹ But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and perdition.

²⁶ And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone am escaped to tell you.

¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone am escaped to tell you.

⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their wealth.

¹⁴ And he shall be as a sanctuary; but a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

¹³ My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.

⁹ And David says, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a recompense unto them:

³⁶ And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursues.

⁶ For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great army: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. ⁷ Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison thereof drinks up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.

²⁵ It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yea, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: terrors are upon him.

⁵ There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God has scattered the bones of him that encamps against you: you have put them to shame, because God has despised them.

¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

²⁵ Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

³ And it came to pass the next day, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD has not called your name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib. ⁴ For thus says the LORD, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

⁵ Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled in haste, and look not back: for fear was all around, says the LORD.

²⁹ Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the generals, and the mighty men, and every slave, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

⁵ They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased to hunger: so that the barren has borne seven; and she that has many children has grown feeble.

³⁶ And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray you, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. ²⁴ Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready for battle.

¹² If he turns not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready. ¹³ He has also prepared for himself the instruments of death; he makes ready his arrows against the persecutors. ¹⁴ Behold, he brought forth iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

¹⁰ Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

²¹ And they shall pass through it, hardpressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall be enraged, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

³ And through covetousness shall they with false words exploit you: whose judgment of old now lingers not, and their destruction slumbers not.

³ Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:

¹⁶ They shall go down to the gates of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

³⁰ And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill your root with famine, and he shall slay your remnant.

⁶ I went down to the foundations of the mountains; the earth with her bars closed about me forever: yet have you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.

¹² And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall rot away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall rot away in their sockets, and their tongue shall rot away in their mouths.

⁸ And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the living creatures of the earth.

¹⁴ Whose confidence shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web.

²² They that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked will come to nothing.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as one dying.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one recognizes them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

³⁴ He beholds every high thing: he is a king over all the children of pride.

⁴ My heart is greatly pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

²⁸ The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

²⁶ And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

⁵⁵ O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

¹⁵ And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²³ And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

¹² His strength shall be hunger-bitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side. ¹³ It shall devour patches of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: from the proceeds of business he shall not rejoice. ¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ Surely he shall not feel quietness in his heart, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his food be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.

³⁸ If my land cries against me, and its furrows likewise complain; ³⁹ If I have eaten its fruit without payment, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

⁹ And its streams shall be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone, and its land shall become burning pitch. ¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night nor day; its smoke shall go up forever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever.

¹³ Woe unto him that builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that uses his neighbor’s service without wages, and gives him nothing for his work;

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increases that which is not his! how long? and to him that loads himself with many pledges! ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that are your creditors, and awake that shall oppress you, and you shall be for booty unto them? ⁸ Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the people shall plunder you; because of bloodshed, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of ruin! ¹⁰ You have plotted shame to your house by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out from the wall, and the beam from the timber shall answer it.

⁴ I will bring it forth, says the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshiped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

¹⁹ My root was spread out to the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁶ Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even their beloved children.

⁹ Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

¹ For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

¹² Your proverbs are like unto ashes, your defenses are defenses of clay.

¹⁶ The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

²² But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

⁷ The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

²⁰ Therefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

²² A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

¹⁴ If iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tents.

This is the portion of them that plunder us, and the lot of them that rob us.

³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appoints over it whomever he will.

¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

¹⁹ And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I alone am escaped to tell you.

⁴ If your children have sinned against him, and he has cast them away for their transgression;

²⁶ All darkness shall be laid up for his treasures: a fire not blown upon shall consume him; it shall go ill with him who is left in his tent. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.

¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. ¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

⁸ Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may dwell alone in the midst of the earth! ⁹ In my hearing said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.

²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children because of the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. ²² For I will rise up against them, says the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, says the LORD.

³⁰ Thus says the LORD, Write this man down as childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his descendants shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

⁸ And at this house, which is exalted, every one that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?

¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they tore every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. ¹³ So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

¹³ He has put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. ¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my close friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ They that dwell in my house, and my maidservants, count me as a stranger: I am an alien in their sight. ¹⁶ I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I entreated him with my mouth. ¹⁷ My breath is repulsive to my wife, though I make supplication for the children of my own body. ¹⁸ Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spoke against me. ¹⁹ All my close friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved have turned against me.

¹³ The Lord shall laugh at him: for he sees that his day is coming.

⁷ Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof.

¹⁶ To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shake his head.

²⁷ Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day has come, the time of their punishment.

²⁵ And you, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,

¹¹ In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them. ¹² But you should not have looked down on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress. ¹³ You should not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, you should not have looked down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity; ¹⁴ Neither should you have stood at the crossroads, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither should you have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations: as you have done, it shall be done unto you: your reward shall return upon your own head.

⁴² Saying, If you had known, even you, at least in this your day, the things which belong unto your peace! but now they are hid from your eyes.

⁴⁴ And shall lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone upon another; because you knew not the time of your visitation.

² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, who knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

¹² Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know you the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

¹⁴ Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways.

²⁸ For you say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

⁶ Pour out your wrath upon the nations that have not known you, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon your name.

³ And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, says the LORD.

²⁵ Pour out your fury upon the nations that know you not, and upon the families that call not on your name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

⁵ Not in the lust of passion, even as the Gentiles who know not God:

⁸ In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
