¹¹ ¶ When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise, and by instructing the wise, he receives wisdom.

³⁴ And all Israel, those that were round about them, fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

¹¹ so that all Israel shall hear and fear and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

²¹ Then all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, and he shall die; so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear and fear.

⁷ ¶ But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. ⁸ So they shall make their own council and agreements to fall upon themselves; all that see them shall flee away. ⁹ And all men shall fear and shall declare the work of God, for they shall understand his doing.

⁵ If the wise will hear them, doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁴ ¶ The heart of him that has understanding seeks wisdom, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

¹ ¶ Whosoever goes astray seeks according to his own lust and shall meddle with every doctrine.

¹⁵ ¶ The heart of the man of understanding acquires wisdom, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

²⁵ ¶ Smite a scorner, and the simple will become prudent, and reproving one that has understanding, he will understand knowledge.

⁵ Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and gave up the spirit; and great fear came on all those that heard these things.

¹¹ And great fear came upon all the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} and upon as many as heard these things. ¹² ¶ And by the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were wrought in the people. (And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. ¹³ And of the others, no one dared join themself to them, but the people magnified them. ¹⁴ And those that believed in the Lord increased in number, multitudes both of men and women.)

⁶ ¶ Now these things became types of us, that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted. ⁷ Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. ⁸ Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed and fell dead: in one day, twenty-three thousand. ⁹ Neither let us tempt the Christ, as some of them also tempted and perished by the serpents. ¹⁰ Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and perished by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now all these things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

¹ ¶ Therefore, it is necessary that we with more diligence keep the things which we have heard, so that we do not fall. ² For if the word spoken by the ministry of angels was steadfast and every rebellion and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, ³ how shall we escape, if we belittle such great saving health? Which, having begun to be published by the Lord, has been confirmed unto us by those that heard him,

²⁸ He that despised the law of Moses died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

¹³ And in the same hour there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain the names of seven thousand men; and the others were frightened and gave glory to the God of heaven.
