He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before obscure men.

⁴⁷ And moreover, the king’s slaves came to bless our lord King David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king worshipped upon the bed.

¹ ¶ A good name is better than precious ointment and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

²⁰ Notwithstanding, rejoice not in this, that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in the heavens.

¹⁰ and delivered him out of all his afflictions and gave him grace and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

³ And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women who laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also and with my other fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

³⁹ And these all, approved by testimony of faith, received not the promise,

⁷ The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and lifts up.

¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the belly also make him? And did not the same one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁹ How much less to him who is not a respecter of the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm for the sons of Korah. ¶ Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: ² Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

³¹ ¶ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he that has mercy on the poor, honours him.

¹³ ¶ The poor and the usurer meet together; the LORD lightens both their eyes.

¹⁹ ¶ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day; ²⁰ and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores

²¹ And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee; nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

² For if a man with a gold ring and in precious apparel comes into your synagogue and a poor person in vile raiment also comes in, ³ and ye have respect to him that wears the precious clothing and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there or sit here under my footstool: ⁴ Are ye not then judging in yourselves and are become judges of evil thoughts? ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

²⁰ He that feared the word of the LORD among the slaves of Pharaoh made his slaves and his livestock flee into the houses; ²¹ and he that did not regard the word of the LORD left his slaves and his livestock in the field.

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

¹⁶ Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; and as for him that lacks understanding, she saith unto him: ¹⁷ Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. ¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there and that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

¹⁶ ¶ The wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is confident.

¹ ¶ He that being often reproved hardens his neck shall suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.

²⁰ ¶ Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself, as it were, for a little moment until the indignation is overpast. ²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of his place to visit the iniquity of the inhabitant of the earth against himself: the earth also shall disclose her blood and shall no longer cover her slain.

¹⁵ Therefore, when ye see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, which shall stand in the holy place (whosoever reads, let him understand), ¹⁶ then let those who are in Judaea flee into the mountains; ¹⁷ let him who is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house, ¹⁸ neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes.

² For ye know well that the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. ⁴ But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should take you as a thief. ⁵ Ye are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us,

⁷ By faith Noah, having received revelation of things not seen as yet, with great care prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and was made heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour.

²¹ ¶ He that follows after righteousness and mercy shall find life, righteousness, and honour.

⁶ And in thy times wisdom and knowledge, and the strength of salvation shall reign: the fear of the LORD shall be his treasure.

¹⁵ For thus has said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is The Holy One; I dwell in the high place and in holiness and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to cause the spirit of the humble to live and to cause the heart of the contrite ones to live.

³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

¹³ know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no longer drive out any of these Gentiles from before you, but they shall be snares and traps unto you and scourges in your sides and thorns in your eyes until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

⁸ For a net shall be cast at his feet, and he shall walk upon a network.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, with winds of whirlwinds: this shall be the portion of their cup.

²⁶ with the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt show thyself adversary. ²⁷ Therefore thou wilt save the humble people; but wilt bring down high looks.

¹ ¶ He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

³ ¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

¹⁵ ¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

¹⁹ ¶ The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns, but the path of the righteous is made plain.

¹⁷ ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹⁶ ¶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but he that despises his ways shall die.

¹⁸ ¶ We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.

²⁰ But ye, beloved, building up yourselves upon your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, ²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto eternal life,

¹⁹ For I know him, that he will command his sons and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and judgment, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.

⁹ Therefore, take heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life, but teach them to thy sons and thy sons’ sons.

⁷ and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up;

²⁸ Therefore, I also have given him back to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall belong to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

²⁶ And the child Samuel kept on growing and was in favour both with the LORD and also with men.

² And now, behold, your king walks before you. I am old and grayheaded, and, behold, my sons are with you, and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day. ³ Behold, here I am; witness against me before the LORD and before his anointed. If I have taken anyone’s ox or if I have taken anyone’s ass or if I have defrauded anyone or if I have oppressed anyone or if I have received a bribe {Heb. ransom} from anyone to blind my eyes, I will restore it you.

³ which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD and his strength and his wonderful works that he has done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their sons: ⁶ That the generation to come might know them, even the sons which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their sons

⁴ And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the discipline and admonition of the Lord.

¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

¹ ¶ Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried unto Elisha, saying, Thy slave, my husband, is dead; and thou knowest that thy slave feared the LORD; and the creditor is come to take my two sons to be his slaves.

⁴ And there were some that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. ⁵ Yet now, given that the flesh of our brethren is as our flesh and their sons as our sons, behold, we subject our sons and our daughters to slavery, and there are some of our daughters in bondage already; neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

²³ ¶ The poor uses intreaties, but the rich answer roughly.

¹⁶ ¶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches and who gives to the rich shall surely come to want.

²² ¶ Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither destroy the destitute in judgment:

² And it shall be, as with the people so with the priest; as with the slave so with his master; as with the maid so with her mistress; as with the buyer so with the seller; as with the lender so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury so with the giver of usury to him.

⁶ Thus hath the LORD said: For three transgressions of Israel and for the fourth, I will not convert her because they sold the righteous for silver and the poor for a pair of shoes,

¹ ¶ Hear this word, ye cows of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat, ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them. ¹² For I have known of your many rebellions and your great sins that afflict the just and take a ransom and turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

⁴ ¶ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, and cut off the poor of the land,

⁶ that we may buy the poor for money and the needy for a pair of shoes and sell the refuse of the wheat.

²⁵ But he not having wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, to make payment.

⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts?

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts.

⁸ Even as I have seen, those that plow iniquity and sow wickedness, reap the same.

³ For the rod of wickedness shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous because the righteous shall not put forth their hands unto iniquity.

³ ¶ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

⁴ For thou hast broken his heavy yoke and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

⁵ ¶ O Assyrian, rod and staff of my anger, in thy hand have I placed my indignation.

²⁹ Rejoice not thou, whole Philistia, because thou didst break the rod of him that smote thee: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

³¹ For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod.

⁷ For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind; they shall have no harvest; the fruit shall yield no meal: if so be it yields, the strangers shall swallow it up.

¹³ Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye shall eat the fruit of lies because thou didst trust in thy way and in the multitude of thy mighty men.

⁷ Do not deceive yourselves; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows in the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life.

⁷ If there should be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy towns in thy land which the LORD thy God gives thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother, ⁸ but thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he lacks. ⁹ Keep thyself that there not be a thought of Belial in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother to give him nothing; for he shall cry unto the LORD against thee, and it shall be a sin unto thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give unto him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him because for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works and in all that thou puttest thine hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (for from my youth the fatherless was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother’s womb) ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ Blessed is he that understands regarding the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of evil. ² The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he shall be blessed upon the earth, and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. ³ The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing; thou wilt soften all his bed in his sickness.

⁹ Pe He has dispersed; he has given to the poor; Tzaddi his righteousness endures for ever; Koph his horn shall be exalted in glory.

²⁵ ¶ The soul who is a blessing unto others shall be made fat, and he that fills shall be filled also himself.

¹⁷ ¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

¹³ ¶ Whosoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself but shall not be heard.

¹ ¶ Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven and even to eight, for thou dost not know what evil shall come upon the earth.

⁸ But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he rise.

⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother? ⁸ ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall gather thee. ⁹ Then shalt thou call, and thou shalt hear the LORD; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if thou pour out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: ¹¹ And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. ¹² And they shall build up out of thee the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the fallen foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; ³⁶ naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee? or thirsty and give thee drink? ³⁸ When did we see thee a stranger and take thee in? or naked and clothe thee? ³⁹ Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and come unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness:

³⁵ But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. ³⁷ ¶ Judge not, and ye shall not be judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned; forgive, and ye shall be forgiven; ³⁸ give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye measure out it shall be measured to you again.

¹³ But when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,

³⁵ I have showed you in all things how that so labouring, ye ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹ ¶ Likewise, brethren, we make known unto you the grace of God bestowed on the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of Macedonia, ² how that in a great trial of tribulation the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

⁶ ¶ But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he who sows in blessings shall also reap blessings. ⁷ Each one according as they purpose in their heart, so let them give, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound in you that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains for ever. ¹⁰ Now he that supplies seed to the sower shall also supply bread for food and shall multiply your seed sown and shall increase the growing of the fruits of your righteousness, ¹¹ so that being enriched in everything to all generosity, which works out through us thanksgiving unto God.

¹⁸ but charge them to do good, that they be rich in good works, liberal to distribute, willing to communicate, ¹⁹ laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the future, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

¹⁰ For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of charity which ye have showed in his name, having helped the saints and helping them.

¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to fellowship; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

⁹ Lovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.

⁹ ¶ And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had born unto Abraham, mocking. ¹⁰ Therefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

¹ ¶ But it came to pass that when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was wroth and took great indignation and mocked the Jews. ² And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Is this to be permitted them? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish on time? Will they resurrect the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which were burned? ³ Now Tobiah, the Ammonite, was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox were to go up it, he would break down their stone wall.

²⁸ And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib, the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite; therefore, I chased him from me.

⁵ Whosoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will cut off; he that has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer.

⁶ ¶ A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.

²⁴ ¶ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

²⁰ ¶ Where there is no wood, the fire goes out, so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases. ²¹ Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife.

¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}; but if he neglects to hear the congregation, let him be unto thee as a worldly man and a publican.

⁵ let such a one be delivered unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

¹³ But those that are without, God shall judge. Therefore, put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art. ⁴⁰ Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled; only in the throne will I be greater than thou. ⁴¹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. ⁴² Then Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph’s hand and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck; ⁴³ and he made him to ride in his second chariot; and they cried before him, Abrech Tender Father-honour this one as a precious father; and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁴ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee no one shall lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁵ And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnathpaaneah, and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁶ ¶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went throughout all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁷ And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls. ⁴⁸ And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt and laid up the food in the cities, placing in each city the food of the field, which was round about. ⁴⁹ And Joseph gathered wheat as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left off numbering; for it was without number. ⁵⁰ And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath, the daughter of Potipherah, prince of On, bore unto him. ⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh; For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house. ⁵² And the name of the second he called Ephraim, For God, said he, has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. ⁵³ And the seven years of the abundance that was in the land of Egypt were ended. ⁵⁴ And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said; and the famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. ⁵⁵ And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. And Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do. ⁵⁶ And the famine was over all the face of the earth. Then Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold unto the Egyptians; for the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt. ⁵⁷ And all the earth came into Egypt to buy from Joseph because the famine was so sore in all lands.

⁶ This Ezra went up from Babylon, and he was a diligent scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given; and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him. ⁷ And there went up some of the sons of Israel and of the priests and the Levites and the singers and the porters and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes, the king. ⁸ And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, in the seventh year of the king. ⁹ For upon the first of the first month he began to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. ¹⁰ For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD and to do it and to teach in Israel his statutes and judgments. ¹¹ ¶ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra, the priest, the scribe, a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD and of his statutes over Israel.

⁴ Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of the heavens. ⁵ And I said unto the king, If it pleases the king, and if thy slave has found favour in thy sight, that thou would send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may rebuild it. ⁶ Then the king said unto me (the queen also sitting by him), For how long shall thy journey be, and when wilt thou return? So the matter pleased the king, and he sent me; and I set him a time.

³ For Mordecai, the Jew, was next unto King Ahasuerus and great among the Jews and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace unto all his seed.

² Thou art fairer than the sons of men, grace is poured into thy lips; therefore God has blessed thee for ever.

⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he that walks in the way of perfection, he shall serve me.

³⁵ ¶ The king’s favour is toward the wise slave, but his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹³ ¶ Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaks that which is right.

⁴⁶ ¶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and humbled himself before Daniel and commanded that they should sacrifice presents and sweet odours unto him. ⁴⁷ The king answered unto Daniel and said, Certainly the God that is your God is God of gods and the Lord of the kings and the revealer of the mysteries, seeing thou could reveal this mystery. ⁴⁸ Then the king magnified Daniel and gave him many and great gifts and made him governor over the whole province of Babylon and prince of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. ⁴⁹ And Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel was at the gate of the king.

³⁰ Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried loudly with a sad voice unto Daniel; and the king, in speaking to Daniel said, Daniel, servant of the living God, has thy God, whom thou servest continually, been able to deliver thee from the lions? ²¹ Then Daniel said unto the king, O king, live for ever. ²² My God has sent his angel, who shut the lions’ mouths, that they do me no evil because before him righteousness was found in me; and even before thee, O king, I have done no corruption. ²³ Then the king was exceeding glad because of him and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury was found upon him because he believed in his God.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

²² And all bore him witness and marvelled at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly, for from now on thou shalt have wars.

¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own prudence, and the counsel of his adversaries is turned to folly.

¹⁹ So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he shall come like a violent river impelled by the breath {Spirit} of the LORD. ²⁰ And the Redeemer shall come to Zion and unto those that turn from the rebellion in Jacob, said the LORD. ²¹ And this shall be my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words, which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from now on and for ever.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens. ¹⁸ And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, a small rock and upon the large rock I will build my congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her.

³⁹ but if it is of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest ye be found fighting against God.

⁹ But there was a certain man called Simon, who before this in the same city used magic arts and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that he himself was some great one, ¹⁰ to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This is the great virtue of God. ¹¹ And to him they had regard because for a long time he had amazed them with magic arts. ¹² But when they believed Philip preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he did not give God the glory, and he expired eaten of worms. ²⁴ But the word of the Lord grew and multiplied.

⁸ But Elymas the wise man (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith. ⁹ Then Saul (who also is Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, set his eyes on him ¹⁰ and said, O full of all deception and all licentiousness, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? ¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is against thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness, and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. ¹² Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

⁸ And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth and remove with the clarity of his coming:

⁸ And in the manner that Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth, men of corrupt understanding, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall not prevail, for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as that of those also was.

³ ¶ And I will give my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. ⁵ And if anyone desires to hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies; and if anyone desires to hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. ⁶ These have power to shut the heaven, that it not rain in the days of their prophecy and have power over the waters to turn them to blood and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. ⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them and shall overcome them and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the streets of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. ⁹ And those of the peoples and kindreds and tongues and Gentiles shall see their dead bodies three days and a half and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. ¹⁰ And those that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them and make merry and shall send gifts one to another because these two prophets tormented those that dwelt on the earth. ¹¹ And after three days and a half, the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon those who saw them.

¹⁴ And to the woman were given two wings of the great eagle that she might fly from the presence of the serpent into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time and times. ¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a river after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the river. ¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon had cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

³² And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the sons of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone through to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. ³³ And there we saw giants, the sons of Anak, of the race of the giants; and we were in our own sight as locusts, and so we were in their sight.

¹³ ¶ The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ ¶ As the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed. ¹⁵ ¶ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ ¶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can give him counsel.

¹⁹ ¶ And when the LORD saw it, his wrath was kindled because of his sons and of his daughters.

²⁰ And she said, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep and said, This time I will go out like before and escape; not knowing that the LORD had departed from him. ²¹ But the Philistines took hold of him and put out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with fetters of iron that he should grind in the prison house.

²⁶ Did not Solomon, king of Israel, sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel; nevertheless, strange women caused even him to offend.

¹² So I gave them up unto the hardness of their heart, and they walked in their own counsels.

¹⁶ to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words, ¹⁷ who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.

³ For the lips of the strange woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil, ⁴ But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. ⁵ Her feet go down to death, her steps uphold Sheol, ⁶ lest thou should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable; thou shalt not know them. ⁷ Hear me now therefore, O ye sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. ⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house, ⁹ lest thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel, ¹⁰ lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger, ¹¹ and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed ¹² and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me! ¹⁴ I have been in almost every kind of evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation. ¹⁵ ¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern and running waters out of thine own well. ¹⁶ Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of thy waters in the streets. ¹⁷ Let them be only thine own and not for strangers with thee. ¹⁸ Thy fountain shall be blessed; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. ¹⁹ Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love, without eyes for anyone else. ²⁰ And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a woman belonging to someone else, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? ²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings. ²² His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

²⁴ to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. ²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eyes. ²⁶ For by means of a whorish woman a man is reduced to a piece of bread, and the woman will hunt the precious soul of the man. ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? ²⁹ So is he that goes in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent.

⁵ That they may keep thee from the woman belonging to someone else, from the stranger who flatters with her words. ⁶ ¶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement ⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, ⁸ passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, ⁹ in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night; ¹⁰ and, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart. ¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house: ¹² Now without, now in the streets, she lies in wait at every corner.) ¹³ So she caught him and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him, ¹⁴ I had promised sacrifices of peace; today I have payed my vows. ¹⁵ Therefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. ¹⁶ I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves. ¹⁹ For the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day. ²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she persuaded him. ²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life. ²⁴ ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Let not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

²⁷ For a whore is a deep ditch and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

²⁶ and I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands are bonds; whosoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be held prisoner in her.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one.

⁵ Behold, the pain of my iniquity has caused me to writhe; my mother conceived me so that sin might be removed from me.

²⁴ ¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.

¹⁸ ¶ Chasten thy son while there is hope, but do not stir up thy soul to destroy him.

¹³ Do not withhold correction from the child; for if thou shall beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ Thou shalt beat him with the rod and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

¹⁵ ¶ The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself shall bring his mother to shame.

¹⁷ ¶ Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; he shall give delight unto thy soul.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others.

¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us as it seemed good unto them, but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ It is true that no chastening at present seems to be cause for joy, but rather for grief; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto those who are exercised by it.

¹⁹ Because he oppressed and forsook the poor; because he has violently taken away houses which he did not build, ²⁰ therefore, he shall not feel quietness in his belly; he shall not escape with that which he desired. ²¹ Nothing is left that he did not eat; therefore, his goods shall not last. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, he shall come into anguish; the hands of all the wicked shall come upon him. ²³ ¶ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him and shall rain it upon him and upon his food. ²⁴ He shall flee from the weapons of iron, and the bow of bronze shall strike him through. ²⁵ He shall draw forth an arrow from his quiver, and like lightning it shall strike through his gall; terrors shall come upon him. ²⁶ All darkness is kept for his secrets; a fire not blown shall consume him; his successor shall be broken in his tent. ²⁷ The heavens shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall be taken captive; they shall be scattered in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God and the heritage that God appoints unto him by his word.

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, saith the LORD; I will set in safety the one whom the wicked one has ensnared.

²² ¶ Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither destroy the destitute in judgment: ²³ For the LORD will judge their cause and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

³ ¶ A poor man that oppresses the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaves no food.

²² ¶ He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye and does not consider that poverty shall come upon him.

² And they coveted fields and stole them, and houses and took them away; so they oppressed the man and his house, even the man and his heritage. ³ Therefore thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I devise an evil against this family, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye walk haughtily; for the time shall be evil.

⁹ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion each one to his brother; ¹⁰ and do not oppress the widow nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to hearken and pulled away the shoulder and stopped their ears that they should not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone lest they should hear the law and the words which the LORD of the hosts has sent by his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets; therefore came great wrath from the LORD of the hosts. ¹³ Therefore it is come to pass that as he cried and they would not hear, so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of the hosts: ¹⁴ but I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the Gentiles whom they did not know. Thus the land was desolate after them that no man passed through nor returned; for they laid the desirable land desolate.

³³ And if ye do good to those who do good to you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again. ³⁵ But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil.

¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, ¹⁴ and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices.

¹² ¶ Cause us to learn this that we might number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

³ to receive the chastening of prudence, justice, judgment, and equity;

² so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to intelligence, ³ yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence, ⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

¹ ¶ My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments:

⁴ He taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ⁸ Grow in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her.

¹ ¶ My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my intelligence; ² that thou may keep council and that thy lips may conserve knowledge.

³³ Hearken unto chastening, and be wise; refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

¹² ¶ Apply thine heart unto chastening and thine ears to the words of wisdom.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know and to search and to seek out wisdom and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the madness of error;

⁹ ¶ All this I have seen and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: the time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt.

¹⁶ Therefore I applied mine heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done upon the earth (for also there is he that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes).

³ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an eternal covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁵ While he yet spoke, behold, a cloud of light overshadowed them, and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

¹⁸ For I am full of words; the spirit within me constrains me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which has no vent; it is ready to burst forth like spirits.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹³ ¶ With my lips I have declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

¹⁰³ ¶ How sweet have been thy spoken words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

¹¹¹ ¶ I have taken thy testimonies as a heritage for ever; for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁶² ¶ I rejoice at thy spoken word, as one that finds great spoil.

¹⁷¹ ¶ My lips shall overflow with praise when thou hast taught me thy statutes.

¹⁰ ¶ When wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is sweet unto thy soul,

¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

¹³ ¶ In the lips of the prudent wisdom is found and is a rod unto the back of him that is void of understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of wisdom.

⁷ ¶ The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish does not so.

²¹ ¶ The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips shall increase doctrine.

¹³ ¶ My son, eat of the honey, because it is good, and of the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: ¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: if thou shalt find it, and in the end thy hope shall not be cut off.

¹¹ ¶ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold inscribed with silver.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I ate them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for thy name was called upon me, O LORD God of the hosts.

⁷ For the priest’s lips keep wisdom, and they seek the law at his mouth; for he is an angel of the LORD of the hosts.

³⁸ He that believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

¹⁵ By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips confessing his name.

⁸ ¶ Wait in him at all times; ye peoples, pour out your heart before him; God is our refuge. Selah.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.

² Behold, O God my saving health, I will trust and not be afraid for JAH, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he also is become saving health unto me.

⁴ Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in JAH, the LORD is the strength of the ages:

⁷ Blessed is the man that is steadfast in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD.

²¹ who by him do believe God, who raised him up from the dead and has given him glory: that your faith and hope might be in God.

⁶ The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

¹² I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as strange things.

¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹⁹ ¶ We have also the most sure word of the prophets, unto which ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts, ²⁰ understanding this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. ²¹ For the prophecy did not come in times past by the will of man, but the holy men of God spoke being inspired by the Holy Spirit.

³ it seemed good also to me, after having understood all the things from the beginning with great diligence, to write them unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, ⁴ that thou mightest know the security of those things in which thou hast been instructed.

³¹ but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.

¹⁵ but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to respond to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and reverence,

¹³ These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

⁶ Thou shalt not pervert the rights of thy poor in his cause.

¹² because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy; and the cause which I did not know I searched out.

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw that they would all help me in the gate;

¹⁰ ¶ Do not remove the old landmark, and do not enter into the inheritance of the fatherless: ¹¹ For their redeemer is mighty; he shall judge their cause against thee.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery and have done violence unto the poor and needy; they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

¹⁰ and do not oppress the widow nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

⁵ And I will come near unto you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against false swearers and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, said the LORD of the hosts.

¹² The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee, but my hand shall not be upon thee.

¹⁵ The LORD, therefore, shall judge, and he shall judge between me and thee. Let him see and plead my cause, and defend me from thy hand.

³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD that judged the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and has kept his slave from evil, for the LORD has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent word unto Abigail to take her to him to wife.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Plead my cause, O LORD, with those that strive with me; fight against those that fight against me.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoils him?

¹ ¶ Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against those who are not merciful; O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

⁵ A father of the fatherless and a defender of the widows is God in his holy habitation.

¹² I know that the LORD will effect the judgment of the poor and the judgment of the destitute.

¹¹ For their redeemer is mighty; he shall judge their cause against thee.

¹ ¶ Woe to thee that dost spoil, and thou wast not spoiled; and dost deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with thee! When thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of the hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause that he may give rest to the land and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁶ Therefore thus hath the LORD said: Behold, I judge thy cause and shall take thy vengeance; and I will dry up her sea and make her flowing waters dry.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD because I have sinned against him, until he has judged my cause and executed my judgment; he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

⁸ Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the other peoples shall spoil thee because of human blood and for the robberies of the land, of the cities, and of all that dwell therein.

²² ¶ The angry man stirs up strife, and the furious man abounds in transgression.

¹⁴ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship does righteousness have with unrighteousness? and what communion does light have with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord does Christ have with Belial? or what part do the faithful have with the unfaithful? ¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

³⁵ But were mingled among the Gentiles and learned their works.

²⁰ ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

¹ ¶ My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, ² thou art snared with the words of thy mouth; thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. ³ Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, for thou hast fallen into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. ⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. ⁵ Escape as a roe from the hand of the hunter and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

¹⁵ ¶ With anxiety shall he that is surety for a stranger be afflicted, and he that hates suretiship shall live securely.

¹⁸ ¶ A man void of understanding strikes hands and becomes surety in the presence of his friend.

¹³ ¶ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger and take a pledge of him that is surety for a strange woman.

²⁶ If thou at all take thy neighbour’s clothing as a pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him before the sun goes down; ²⁷ for only that is his covering, it is his clothing to cover his flesh, in which he must sleep; and it shall come to pass, when he cries unto me, that I will hear, for I am merciful.

¹⁴ ¶ Thou shalt not reduce thy neighbour’s border, which those of old time have marked in thine inheritance, which thou shalt possess in the land that the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit.

¹⁷ Cursed is he that reduces his neighbour’s border. And all the people shall say, Amen.

² Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks and feed thereof.

¹⁰ ¶ Do not remove the old landmark, and do not enter into the inheritance of the fatherless:

⁴⁶ ¶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

⁸ Blessed are thy men, blessed are these thy slaves, who stand continually before thee and that hear thy wisdom.

²⁸ And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour, and Solomon, seeing that the young man was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.

⁴ ¶ He that deals with a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁴ ¶ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the negligent shall be under tribute.

¹⁰ Whatever thy hand finds to do, do it with all thy might, for there is no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, where thou goest.

²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

¹¹ not slothful in earnest care, but fervent in the Spirit, serving the Lord,

² Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
