¹⁰ ¶ The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbour finds no favour in his eyes.

⁸ Ask thy slaves, and they will tell thee. Therefore, let the young men find grace in thine eyes, for we come in a good day; give, I pray thee, whatever is in thy hand unto thy slaves and to thy son David. ⁹ And when David’s young men came, they spoke to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David and ceased. ¹⁰ And Nabal answered David’s slaves and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There are many slaves nowadays that break from their masters. ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread and my water and my slaughtered meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it unto men that I do not know where they are from?

⁴ He devises iniquity upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not abhor evil.

² Thy tongue devises wickedness like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. ³ Thou dost love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

⁵ Teth A good man has mercy and lends; Jod He will govern his affairs with good judgment.

²⁹ Do not devise evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwells securely by thee.

¹² ¶ The wicked desires the net of evil men, but the root of the righteous shall yield fruit.

¹³ ¶ Whosoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself but shall not be heard.

⁶ For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will invent iniquity to work unrighteousness and to speak scornfully against the LORD, leaving the soul of the hungry empty and taking away the drink of the thirsty. ⁷ Certainly the greedy use evil measures: he devises wicked devices to ensnare the simple with lying words and to speak in judgment against the poor. ⁸ But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he rise.

² Who hate the good, and love the evil, who steal their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ and eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones and chop them in pieces as for the pot and as flesh within the caldron.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders, ²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness:

⁶ ¶ Now these things became types of us, that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members? ² Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not. ³ Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures. ⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore that desires to be a friend of the world, makes himself the enemy of God. ⁵ Do ye think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy?

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices. ⁶ Ye have condemned and murdered the just, and he does not resist you.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
