¹² ¶ The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked, how God overthrows the wicked for their evil.

²⁹ And it came to pass as God destroyed the cities of the plain that God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the destruction when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root, but at the same time I cursed his habitation.

¹⁵ He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tent, and he shall be brought to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ He shall dwell in his tent, as if it were not his; brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above his branch shall be cut off. ¹⁷ His memory shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the streets. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from the light into the darkness and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall have neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any to succeed him in his dwellings. ²⁰ Those that come after him shall be dismayed at his day, as those that went before were overcome with fear. ²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that does not know God.

²⁸ For ye say, What is of the house of the prince, and what of the tent of the habitation of the wicked? ²⁹ Have ye not asked those that go by the way, and do ye not know their tokens? ³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God and the heritage of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If their sons are multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death; and their widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares raiment as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He built his house as a moth and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered; he shall open his eyes and not see anyone. ²⁰ Terrors shall take hold on him as waters; a whirlwind shall carry him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind shall take him away, and he shall depart; the storm shall catch him up out of his place. ²² For God shall cast down on him and not spare; he would attempt to flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and from his place they shall hiss at him.

³⁵ Resh I have seen the wicked in great power and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, behold, he was not: I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁵ God shall likewise cast thee down for ever; he shall cut thee off and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁴³ Who is wise and will observe these things and shall understand the mercies of the LORD?

³ ¶ The perfection of the upright shall guide them in the way, but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them. ⁴ ¶ Riches shall not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness shall deliver from death. ⁵ ¶ The righteousness of the perfect shall straighten his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

⁶ ¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

¹¹ ¶ The house of the wicked shall be made desolate, but the tent of the upright shall flourish.

³² ¶ For his wickedness shall the wicked be cast out, but the righteous in his death has hope.

⁹ Who is wise that he might understand this? and prudent that he might know this? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them; but the rebellious shall fall therein.

¹¹ I have overthrown some of you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the fire; and ye never returned unto me, said the LORD.

⁹ Woe to him that covets ill-gotten gain by violence for his house that he may set his nest on high, that he may escape from the power of evil! ¹⁰ Thou hast taken shameful counsel for thy house by cutting off many peoples and hast committed a sin against thy life. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out from the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. ¹² Woe to him that builds the city with blood and founds the village with iniquity!

⁵ But with many of them God was not pleased; therefore, they were overthrown in the wilderness.

⁴ For if God did not forgive the angels that sinned, but cast them down into the deepest abyss {Gr. Tartarus} and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; ⁵ and if he did not forgive the old world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven other persons, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; ⁶ and if he condemned by destruction the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha, turning them into ashes, making them an example unto those that after should live without fear and reverence of God; ⁷ ¶ and delivered just Lot, who was persecuted by those abominable people because of their nefarious conversation; ⁸ (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, afflicted his righteous soul from day to day with the deeds of those unjust people); ⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished;

⁶ by which the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished; ⁷ but the heavens, which are now, and the earth are conserved by the same word, kept unto the fire in the day of judgment and of perdition of the ungodly men.
