Worrell(i)
forty days, being tempted by the Devil. And He ate nothing in those days; and, when they were completed, He hungered.
And the Devil said to Him, "If Thou art God's Son, command this stone, that it become bread."
And Jesus made answer to him, "It has been written, 'Not on bread alone shall man live.'"
And, leading Him up, he showed Him all the kingdoms of the inhabited earth in a moment of time.
And the Devil said to Him, "To Thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them; because to me it has been delivered, and to whomsoever I will I give it.
If Thou, therefore, wilt worship before me, it shall all be Thine."
And Jesus, answering, said to him, "It has been written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.'"
And he led Him to Jerusalem, and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If Thou art God's Son, cast Thyself down hence;
for it has been written, 'He will command His angels concerning you, to keep watch over you;
and on their hands they shall bear you up, lest haply you dash your foot against a stone.'"
And Jesus, answering, said to him, "It has been said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God."
And, having completed every temptation, the Devil departed from Him until a fitting season.
