When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.
At that time, the LORD said to Joshua, "Make flint knives, and sit and circumcise the sons of Israel."
So Joshua made some flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath-haaraloth.
This is why Joshua circumcised: All the men who came out of Egypt including all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
All the people who came out had undergone circumcision; but all the people whose birth had taken place in the waste land on their journey from Egypt had not.
For forty years the Israelites traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD. To them the LORD swore that they would not see the land that he swore to their ancestors to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And He raised up their children in their stead; them did Joshua circumcise; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised by the way.
And when they had been circumcised, they rested there in the camp until they were healed.
And the LORD said to Joshua, Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. Therefore, the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.
And the children of Israel kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, to the west of Jericho on the opposite side of the Jordan in the plain.
On the next day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate from the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and roasted corn.
And the manna ceased the day after, when they started eating the produce of the land, and there was no longer manna for the Israelites. They ate from the crop of the land of Canaan in that year.
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, lifting up his eyes he saw a man in front of him, with his sword uncovered in his hand: and Joshua went up to him and said, Are you for us or against us?
And he said to him, "Truly I am the commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come." And Joshua fell facedown to the ground and worshipped, and said to him, "What does my lord say to his servant?"
The commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, "Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so.
