This is the word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying:
This is what the LORD the God of Israel says: "Write in a book everything that I tell you.
"The days are coming," says the LORD, "when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity. I will bring them back to the land that I gave their ancestors, and they will take possession of it."’
These are the words the LORD spoke about Israel and Judah:
Thus said the Lord: You shall hear a sound of fear fear, and not peace.
Ask ye, and see if a man bear children? why then have I seen every man with his hands on his loins, like a woman in labour, and all faces are turned yellow?
Oh how terrible! That time will be worse than any like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be rescued from it.
"On that day," declares the LORD Almighty, "I will break the yokes off your necks and tear off your ropes. Foreigners will no longer make you serve them.
'Rather, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
Therefore do not fear, O Jacob my servant, says the LORD, nor be dismayed, O Israel. For behold, I will save you from afar and your seed from the land of their captivity and Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease and none will make him afraid.
"I am with you. I will rescue you," declares the LORD. "I will completely destroy all the nations where I scattered you, but I will not completely destroy you. I will correct you with justice. I will not let you go entirely unpunished."
This is what the LORD says: "Your wound is incurable. Your injury is beyond healing.
There is no one to plead your cause. There is no medicine for your sore, no healing for you.
All your lovers have forgotten you, they do not care for you. I have struck you with the blow of an enemy, the punishment of the cruel, because of the greatness of your guilt, your sins are numerous.
Why do you cry out over your crushing? Your pain is incurable, for the greatness of your iniquity; your sins are many, so I have done these things to you.
In addition, all who devour you will be devoured, and all your oppressors all of them will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will become plunder, and all who spoil you will become spoil.
"I will restore your health and heal your wounds," proclaims the LORD. "People call you an outcast: 'Zion, no one cares for you.'"
"This is what the LORD says: 'I'm going to restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings. A city will be rebuilt on its ruins and a palace will sit on its rightful place.
And from them will go out praise and the sound of laughing: and I will make them great in number, and they will not become less; and I will give them glory, and they will not be small.
Their children will be as they were before, and their congregation will be established before me. I'll punish all who oppress them.
Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will come from among them. I'll bring him near, and he will approach me, for who would otherwise dare to approach me?' declares the LORD.
And you will be my people, and I will be your God.
The storm of the LORD will come with his anger. Like a driving wind, it will swirl down on the heads of the wicked.
The fierce anger of the LORD won't turn back until he has accomplished and established the plan of his heart. In the days to come, you will understand this.
