Matthew 14:2-14

Thomson(i) 2 said to his servants, This is John the Baptist. He is raised from the dead, and therefore miracles are performed by him. 3 [For Herod had apprehended John and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip: 4 for John had said to him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. 5 Upon which Herod would have put him to death, but he was afraid of the people, because they looked upon him as a prophet. 6 But when Herod's birth day was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod. 7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask. 8 And she at the instigation of her mother, said, Give me here in a basin the head of John the Baptist. 9 Though the king was sorry, yet from a regard to the oath and the guests, he ordered it to be given her. 10 So he sent and beheaded John in the prison. 11 And his head was brought in a basin and given to the damsel, who carried it to her mother. 12 And his disciples went and took up the body, and buried it, and came and told Jesus. 13 When Jesus heard this he departed thence, in a vessel, privately, to a desert place; and the people, being informed, followed him by land out of the cities. 14 And when Jesus landed he saw a great multitude, and had compassion on them, and healed their sick.
