and he was fain to fill his belly with the carob pods which the swine were eating, as nobody gave him any thing.
At length, coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father have bread enough and to spare, while I am perishing with hunger?
I will rise and go to my father, and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight,
and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
Accordingly he arose and went to his father. But he keeping yet at a distance, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
Whereupon the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
But the father said to his servants, Bring out the best robe and put it on him; and put a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet.
And bring out the fatted calf and kill it. And let us eat and be joyful;
because this my son was dead and is come to life. He was indeed lost and is now found. So they began to be merry.
