Murdock⁽ⁱ⁾ ³ And the Tempter came, and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, command these stones to become bread. ⁴ But he replied, and said: It is written, that not by bread only, doth man live; but by every word proceeding from the mouth of God. ⁵ Then the Calumniator took him to the holy city, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, that he will give his angels charge of thee, and in their hands will they sustain thee, lest thou strike thy foot against a stone.
