Isaiah 3

CLV^{(i) 1} For behold! the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole staff of water, ² the master and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, and the diviner and the elder, ³ the chief of fifty, and the reputable, and the counselor and the wise, the artificers and the one who understands charm whistling." ⁴ And I give them youths for their chiefs, and the unweaned will rule among them." ⁵ And exactors oppress the people, man by man, and each man his associate. Audacious is the youth with the elder, and the slighted with the glorious." ⁶ For a man is grasping his brother, of the household of his father, saying, "Raiment have you! Our captain shall you become! And this food shall be under your hands." ⁷ Yet swearing, he lifts up his hand in that day, saying, "I will not become one who binds up wounds, and in my house there is no bread and no raiment. You shall not place me as a captain over the people!" ⁸ For faltered has Jerusalem, and Judah falls, for their tongue is offensive, and their actions against Yahweh are defiant, therefore, now, humbled is their glory." ⁹ The cut of their faces answers against them. And they tell their sin as Sodom. They do not suppress it. Alack to their soul! For they requite them with evil! ¹⁰ Say to the righteous that good is his portion, for the fruit of their actions are they eating." ¹¹ Alack to the wicked one; evil is his portion, for the requital of his hands is returning to him." ¹² My people--its exactors are clean-gleaners, and the exactors rule among My people. Those making you happy lead you astray, and the way of your paths they confuse." ¹³ Yahweh is stationed to contend, and standing to adjudicate His people." ¹⁴ Yahweh is entering into judgment, with the elders of His people and its chiefs, "And you it is who consume My vineyard, and the pillage of the humble is in your houses." ¹⁵ What is it to you that you are crushing My people, and the faces of the humble are grinding?Averring is my Lord, Yahweh of hosts." ¹⁶ And saying is Yahweh, "Inasmuch as haughty are the daughters of Zion, and going with a stretched-out throat and falsifying eyes, to go and trip are they going, and with their feet are they tinkling their anklets." ¹⁷ So my Lord Yahweh will abase the scalp of the daughters of Zion, and Yahweh their enticement will make naked in that day." ¹⁸ And my Lord will take away the beauty of their covering, and their ornaments, the anklets and the networks and the crescents, ¹⁹ and the drops, and the navel ornaments, and the spangles, ²⁰ and the tiaras, and the stepping chains, and the ribbons, and the refreshment vials and the charm whistles, ²¹ and the rings and nose pendants, ²² and the costumes and the lounging robes, and the shawls and the wallets, ²³ and the rolls and the shirts, and the turbans and the draperies." ²⁴ And instead of the aromatics, coming is putrefaction, and instead of a girdle skirt, coming is a girth, and instead of the doing of a coiffure, baldness, and instead of rich attire, a girding of sackcloth, branding instead of loveliness." ²⁵ Your shameful death-doomed by the sword shall fall, and your masters in the war." ²⁶ And complain and mourn shall your portals, and empty on the earth shall you sit."
