20 H256 So Ahab H7971 sent H1121 unto all the sons H3478 of Israel, H6908 and gathered H5030 the prophets H6908 together H2022 unto mountain H3760 Carmel.

21 H452 And Elijah H5066 came H5971 unto all the people, H559 and said, H5921 How long H6452 hesitate H8147 you between two H5587 opinions? H3068 if the Lord H430 be God, H1168 follow him: but if Baal, H3212 then follow H5971 him. And the people H6030 answered H1697 him not a word.

22 H559 Then said H452 Elijah H5971 unto the people, H3498 I, even I only, remain H5030 a prophet H3068 of the Lord; H1168 but Baal's H5030 prophets H702 are four H3967 hundred H2572 and fifty H376 men.

mount Carmel.Mount Carmel is situated north of Dora and south of Ptolemais or Acre, from which it is distant, according to Josephus, 120 stadia, or, according to Thevenot, 10 miles; one of its principal points advancing considerably into the Mediterranean, and forming an elevated promontory. It is described as a flattened cone, about 2,000 feet (some say 1,500) in height, very rocky, its sides steep and rugged, and the soil neither deep nor rich. Capt. Mangles says its is now quite barren, though at the north-eastern foot of it there are some pretty olive-grounds.
