Luke 24:13-32 Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), δύο (two) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ἐν (on) αὐτῇ (same) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἦσαν (were) πορευόμενοι (going) εἰς (to) κώμην (a village) ἀπέχουσαν (being distant), σταδίους (stadia) ἑξήκοντα (sixty) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), ᾗ (whose) ὄνομα (name is) Ἐμμαοῦς (Emmaus);

¹⁴ καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) ὡμίλουν (were talking) πρὸς (with) ἀλλήλους (one another) περὶ (about) πάντων (all) τῶν (-) συμβεβηκότων (having taken place) τούτων (these things). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὁμιλεῖν (talking) αὐτοὺς (of them) καὶ (and) συζητεῖν (reasoning), καὶ (that) αὐτὸς (Himself) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ἐγγίσας (having drawn near), συνεπορεύετο (was walking along with) αὐτοῖς (them); ¹⁶ οἱ (-) δὲ (but) ὀφθαλμοὶ (the eyes) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκρατοῦντο (were held) τοῦ (-) μὴ (not) ἐπιγνῶναι (to know) αὐτόν (Him). ¹⁷ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Τίνες (What) οἱ (-) λόγοι (words are) οὗτοι (these) οὓς (that) ἀντιβάλλετε (you exchange) πρὸς (with) ἀλλήλους (one another) περιπατοῦντες (walking)?” Καὶ (And) ἐστάθησαν (they stood still), σκυθρωποί (looking sad). ¹⁸ ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), εἷς (the one) ὀνόματι (named) Κλεοπᾶς (Cleopas) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him), “Σὺ (You) μόνος (alone) παροικεῖς (visit) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔγνως (have known) τὰ (the things) γενόμενα (having come to pass) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) ταύταις (these)?” ¹⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ποῖα (What things)?” οἱ (-) Δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Τὰ (The things) περὶ (concerning) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (of) Ναζαρηνοῦ (Nazareth), ὃς (who) ἐγένετο (was) ἀνὴρ (a man), προφήτης (a prophet) δυνατὸς (mighty) ἐν (in) ἔργῳ (deed) καὶ (and) λόγῳ (word) ἐναντίον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) καὶ (and) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (the) λαοῦ (people); ²⁰ ὅπως (that) τε (then) παρέδωκαν (delivered up) αὐτὸν (him) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) ἡμῶν (of us) εἰς (to) κρίμα (the judgment) θανάτου (of death), καὶ (and) ἐσταύρωσαν (crucified) αὐτόν (Him). ²¹ ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) ἠλπίζομεν (were hoping) ὅτι (-) αὐτός (He) ἐστιν (it is) ὁ (who) μέλλων (is about) λυτροῦσθαι (to redeem) τὸν (-) Ἰσραήλ (Israel). ἀλλά (But) γε (indeed) καὶ (also) σὺν (with) πᾶσιν (all) τούτοις (these things), τρίτην (the third) ταύτην (this) ἡμέραν (day) ἄγει (brings), ἀφ’ (away from) οὗ (which) ταῦτα (these things) ἐγένετο (came to pass). ²² Ἀλλὰ (However) καὶ (also) γυναῖκές (women) τινες (certain) ἐξ (out from) ἡμῶν (us) ἐξέστησαν (astonished) ἡμᾶς (us). γενόμεναι (Having been) ὀρθριναὶ (early) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb) ²³ καὶ (and) μὴ (not) εὑροῦσαι (having found) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἦλθον (they came) λέγουσαι (declaring) καὶ (also) ὀπτασίαν (a vision) ἀγγέλων (of angels) ἑωρακέναι (to have seen), οἳ (who) λέγουσιν (say) αὐτὸν (He) ζῆν (is alive). ²⁴ καὶ (And) ἀπῆλθόν (went) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) σὺν (with) ἡμῖν (us) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb) καὶ (and) εὗρον (found it) οὕτως (so), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) αἱ (the) γυναῖκες (women) εἶπον (said); αὐτὸν (Him) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) εἶδον (they saw).” ²⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ὦ (O) ἀνόητοι (foolish) καὶ (and) βραδεῖς (slow) τῇ (-) καρδίᾳ (of heart) τοῦ (-) πιστεύειν (to believe) ἐπὶ (in) πᾶσιν (all) οἷς (that) ἐλάλησαν (have spoken) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets). ²⁶ οὐχὶ (Not) ταῦτα (these things) ἔδει (was it necessary for) παθεῖν (to suffer) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) καὶ (and) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him)?” ²⁷ καὶ (And) ἀρξάμενος (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) Μωϋσέως (Moses) καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) πάντων (all) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (Prophets), διερμήνευσεν (He interpreted) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) πάσαις (all) ταῖς (the) γραφαῖς (Scriptures) τὰ (the things) περὶ (concerning) ἑαυτοῦ (Himself). ²⁸ Καὶ (And) ἤγγισαν (they drew near) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) κώμην (village) οὗ (where) ἐπορεύοντο (they were going), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (He) προσεποιήσατο (appeared) πορρώτερον (farther) πορεύεσθαι (to be going). ²⁹ καὶ (And) παρεβιάσαντο (they constrained) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Μεῖνον (Abide) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us), ὅτι (for) πρὸς (toward) ἑσπέραν (evening) ἐστὶν (it is), καὶ (and) κέκλικεν (has declined) ἤδη (now) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day).” Καὶ (And) εἰσῆλθεν (He entered in) τοῦ (-) μεῖναι (to abide) σὺν (with) αὐτοῖς (them). ³⁰ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κατακλιθῆναι (reclining) αὐτὸν (of Him) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), λαβὼν (having taken) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) εὐλόγησεν (He blessed it), καὶ (and) κλάσας (having broken it), ἐπεδίδου (He began giving it) αὐτοῖς (to them). ³¹ αὐτῶν (Of them) δὲ (then) διηνοίχθησαν (were opened) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes), καὶ (and) ἐπέγνωσαν (they knew) αὐτόν (Him). καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) ἄφαντος (vanished) ἐγένετο (being seen) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them). ³² Καὶ (And) εἶπαν (they said) πρὸς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another), “Οὐχὶ (Not) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) ἡμῶν (of us) καιομένη (burning) ἦν (was) ἐν (within) ἡμῖν (us) ὡς (as) ἐλάλει (He was speaking) ἡμῖν (with us) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (road), ὡς (as) διήνοιγεν (He was opening) ἡμῖν (to us) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures)?”
