Luke 11:28-54 Αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (then) εἶπεν (said), “Μενοῦν (No rather), μακάριοι (blessed are) οἱ (those) ἀκούοντες (hearing) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) φυλάσσοντες (keeping it).”

BIB⁽ⁱ⁾ ²⁸ Αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (then) εἶπεν (said), “Μενοῦν (No rather), μακάριοι (blessed are) οἱ (those) ἀκούοντες (hearing) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) φυλάσσοντες (keeping it).” ²⁹ Τῶν (Of the) δὲ (now) ὄχλων (crowds) ἐπαθροιζομένων (being pressed around together), ἤρξατο (He began) λέγειν (to say), “Ἡ (The) γενεὰ (generation) αὕτη (this), γενεὰ (generation) πονηρά (an evil) ἐστιν (is); σημεῖον (a sign) ζητεῖ (it seeks after), καὶ (and) σημεῖον (a sign) οὐ (not) δοθήσεται (will be given) αὐτῇ (to it), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) Ἰωνᾶ (of Jonah). ³⁰ καθὼς (As) γὰρ (for) ἐγένετο (was) Ἰωνᾶς (Jonah) τοῖς (to the) Νινευίταις (Ninevites) σημεῖον (a sign), οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) τῇ (to the) γενεᾷ (generation) ταύτῃ (this). ³¹ Βασίλισσα (The Queen) νότου (of the South) ἐγερθήσεται (will rise up) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κρίσει (judgment) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀνδρῶν (men) τῆς (of the) γενεᾶς (generation) ταύτης (this), καὶ (and) κατακρινεῖ (will condemn) αὐτούς (them). ὅτι (For) ἦλθεν (she came) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) περάτων (ends) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) ἀκοῦσαι (to hear) τὴν (the) σοφίαν (wisdom) Σολομῶνος (of Solomon), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), πλεῖον (greater) Σολομῶνος (than Solomon) ὧδε (here). ³² ἄνδρες (The men) Νινευῖται (of Nineveh) ἀναστήσονται (will stand up) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κρίσει (judgment) μετὰ (with) τῆς (the) γενεᾶς (generation) ταύτης (this), καὶ (and) κατακρινοῦσιν (will condemn) αὐτήν (it). ὅτι (For) μετενόησαν (they repented) εἰς (at) τὸ (the) κήρυγμα (preaching) Ἰωνᾶ (of Jonah), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), πλεῖον (greater) Ἰωνᾶ (than Jonah) ὧδε (is here). ³³ Οὐδεὶς (But no one) λύχνον (a lamp) ἅψας (having lit), εἰς (in) κρύπτην (secret) τίθησιν (sets it), οὐδὲ (nor) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (the) μόδιον (basket), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) λυχνίαν (lampstand), ἵνα (that) οἱ (those) εἰσπορευόμενοι (entering in) τὸ (the) φέγγος (light) βλέπωσιν (may see). ³⁴ Ὁ (The) λύχνος (lamp) τοῦ (of your) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you). ὅταν (When) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) ἁπλοῦς (clear) ᾖ (is), καὶ (also) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) φωτεινόν (light) ἐστιν (is); ἐπὰν (when) δὲ (however) πονηρὸς (evil) ᾖ (it be), καὶ (also) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) σκοτεινόν (is dark). ³⁵ σκόπει (Take heed) οὖν (therefore), μὴ (lest) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τὸ (that is) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) σκότος (darkness) ἐστίν (be). ³⁶ εἰ (If) οὖν (therefore) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) ὅλον (is full) φωτεινόν (of light), μὴ (not) ἔχον (having) μέρος (part) τι (any) σκοτεινόν (dark), ἔσται (it will be) φωτεινὸν (light) ὅλον (all), ὡς (as) ὅταν (when) ὁ (the) λύχνος (lamp) τῇ (-) ἀστραπῇ (shining) φωτίζῃ (might light) σε (you).” ³⁷ Ἐν (In) δὲ (then) τῷ (the) λαλῆσαι (speaking), ἐρωτᾷ (asked) αὐτὸν (Him) Φαρισαῖος (a Pharisee) ὅπως (that) ἀριστήσῃ (He would dine) παρ’ (with) αὐτῷ (him), εἰσελθὼν (having entered) δὲ (then), ἀνέπεσεν (He reclined). ³⁸ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Φαρισαῖος (the Pharisee), ἰδὼν (having seen it), ἐθαύμασεν (marveled) ὅτι (that) οὐ (not) πρῶτον (first) ἐβαπτίσθη (He washed) πρὸ (before) τοῦ (the) ἀρίστου (dinner). ³⁹ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (him), “Νῦν (Now) ὑμεῖς (you) οἱ (-) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), τὸ (the) ἔξωθεν (outside) τοῦ (of the) ποτηρίου (cup) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) πίνακος (dish) καθαρίζετε (you cleanse), τὸ (-) δὲ (and) ἔσωθεν (the inside) ὑμῶν (of you) γέμει (is full) ἁρπαγῆς (of plundering) καὶ (and) πονηρίας (wickedness). ⁴⁰ ἄφρονες (Fools)! οὐχ (Did not) ὁ (the One) ποιήσας (having made) τὸ (the) ἔξωθεν (outside), καὶ (also) τὸ (the) ἔσωθεν (inside) ἐποίησεν (make)? ⁴¹ πλὴν (But of) τὰ (the things) ἐνόντα (being within) δότε (give) ἐλεημοσύνην (alms), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), πάντα (all things) καθαρὰ (clean) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐστιν (are). ⁴² Ἀλλὰ (But) οὐαὶ (woe) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (-) Φαρισαίοις (Pharisees), ὅτι (for) ἀποδεκατοῦτε (you pay tithes of) τὸ (-) ἡδύοσμον (mint) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) πήγανον (rue) καὶ (and) πᾶν (every) λάχανον (herb); καὶ (and) παρέρχεσθε (you pass by) τὴν (the) κρίσιν (justice) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (also) ἔδει (it behooved you) ποιῆσαι (to do), κἀκεῖνα (and those) μὴ (not) παρεῖναι (to neglect). ⁴³ Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (-) Φαρισαίοις (Pharisees), ὅτι (for) ἀγαπᾶτε (you love) τὴν (the) πρωτοκαθεδρίαν (first seat) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) συναγωγαῖς (synagogues) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἀσπασμοὺς (greetings) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀγοραῖς (marketplaces). ⁴⁴ οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅτι (for) ἐστὲ (you are) ὡς (like) τὰ (-) μνημεῖα (graves) τὰ (-) ἄδηλα (unmarked), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄνθρωποι (men) οἱ (-) περιπατοῦντες (walking) ἐπάνω (above) οὐκ (not) οἴδασιν (have known it).” ⁴⁵ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δέ (now), τις (one) τῶν (of the) νομικῶν (lawyers) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), ταῦτα (these things) λέγων (saying), καὶ (also) ἡμᾶς (us) ὑβρίζεις (You insult).” ⁴⁶ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Καὶ (Also) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (the) νομικοῖς (lawyers), οὐαί (woe)! ὅτι (For) φορτίζετε (you burden) τοὺς (the) ἀνθρώπους (men) φορτία (with burdens) δυσβάστακτα (heavy to bear), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (yourselves) ἑνὶ (with one) τῶν (of the) δακτύλων (fingers) ὑμῶν (of you), οὐ (not) προσψαύετε (do touch) τοῖς (the) φορτίοις (burdens). ⁴⁷ οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅτι (for) οἰκοδομεῖτε (you build) τὰ (the) μνημεῖα (tombs) τῶν (of the) προφητῶν (prophets), οἱ (-) δὲ (yet) πατέρες (the fathers) ὑμῶν (of you) ἀπέκτειναν (killed) αὐτούς (them). ⁴⁸ ἄρα (So) μάρτυρές (witnesses) ἐστε (you are), καὶ (and) συνευδοκεῖτε (consent) τοῖς (to the) ἔργοις (works) τῶν (of the) πατέρων (fathers) ὑμῶν (of you). ὅτι (For) αὐτοὶ (they) μὲν (indeed) ἀπέκτειναν (killed) αὐτοὺς (them); ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (now) οἰκοδομεῖτε (build their tombs). ⁴⁹ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) σοφία (Wisdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) εἶπεν (said), ‘Ἀποστελῶ (I will send) εἰς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) προφήτας (prophets) καὶ (and) ἀποστόλους (apostles), καὶ (and) ἐξ (some of) αὐτῶν (them) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) καὶ (and) διώξουσιν (persecute),’ ⁵⁰ ἵνα (so that) ἐκζητηθῇ (might be charged) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) πάντων (of all) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) τὸ (-) ἐκκεχυμένον (having been poured out) ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world) ἀπὸ (against) τῆς (the) γενεᾶς (generation) ταύτης (this), ⁵¹ ἀπὸ (from) αἵματος (the blood) Ἅβελ (of Abel) ἕως (to) αἵματος (the blood) Ζαχαρίου (of Zechariah), τοῦ (the one) ἀπολομένου (having perished) μεταξὺ (between) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) καὶ (and) τοῦ (the) οἴκου (house). ναί (Yes), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐκζητηθήσεται (it will be required) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) γενεᾶς (generation) ταύτης (this). ⁵² Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), τοῖς (the) νομικοῖς (lawyers), ὅτι (for) ἤρατε (you have taken away) τὴν (the) κλεῖδα (key) τῆς (of the) γνώσεως (knowledge). αὐτοὶ (You yourselves) οὐκ (not) εἰσήλθατε (did enter), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those who) εἰσερχομένους (are entering) ἐκωλύσατε (you hindered).” ⁵³ Κἀκεῖθεν (From there) ἐξελθόντος (having gone forth) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἤρξαντο (began) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) δεινῶς (urgently) ἐνέχειν (to press upon Him) καὶ (and) ἀποστοματίζειν (to make speak) αὐτὸν (Him) περὶ (about) πλειόνων (many things), ⁵⁴ ἐνεδρεύοντες (watching) αὐτὸν (Him) θηρεῦσαί (to catch) τι (in something) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him).
