And will not God avenge his chosen, who cry to him day and night, though he is long suffering in respect to them?
I say to you, that he will avenge them speedily. But yet, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on the earth?
And he spoke this parable to some who trust in themselves that they are righteous, and despise others.
Two men went up into the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
The Pharisee stood, and prayed thus with himself: God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying: God be merciful to me, the sinner.
I say to you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For every one that exalts himself shall be humbled; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
