²⁶ And when they led Him away, they laid hold on one Simon a Cyrenean coming out of the country, and put the cross on him to bear it behind Jesus.

³² And as they were going along they met with a man of Cyrene, whose name was Simon; and forced him to carry the cross. ³³ And when they were come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, ³⁴ the place of a skull, they gave Him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: but when He had tasted it, He would not drink. ³⁵ And after they had fixed Him to the cross, they parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. ³⁶ And they sat down and watched Him there: and put up over his head his accusation in writing, ³⁷ THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ And there were two thieves crucified with Him: one on his right hand, and one on the left. ³⁹ And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it again in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ And in like manner the chief priests also insulting Him, with the scribes and elders, ⁴² said, He saved others, himself He cannot save: if He be the king of Israel, let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe Him: ⁴³ He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will own Him; for He said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ And one of the thieves also, that were crucified with Him, cast the same reproach upon Him.

²¹ And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was passing by, coming out of the country, to carry his cross: ²² and they brought Him to a place called Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, the place of a scull. ²³ And they offered Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He would not take it. ²⁴ And when they had fastened Him to the cross, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what each of them should take. ²⁵ And it was the third hour, when they fixed Him on the cross: ²⁶ and the title of his charge was written over Him, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁷ And they crucified two thieves with Him, one on his right hand and one on his left: ²⁸ so that the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, "And He was numbered with the transgressors." ²⁹ And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest, the temple, ³⁰ and buildest it in three days, save thyself and come down from the cross. ³¹ And the chief priests likewise scoffing at Him among themselves, with the scribes, said, He saved others, Himself He cannot save: let Christ, ³² the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe in Him. And even they that were crucified with Him, reviled Him.

²³ And He said unto them all, if any one is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me:

²⁷ And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and follow me, cannot be my disciple.

¹⁶ Then delivered he Him therefore unto them to be crucified. ¹⁷ And they took Jesus, and led Him away. And He went out, bearing his cross, into a place called the place of a scull, in Hebrew Golgotha:

¹⁰ Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers from Rome, Jews and proselytes,

⁶ These they set before the apostles; who, when they had prayed, laid their hands upon them.
