¹ Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. Behold, the near kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by. Boaz said to him, “Come over here, friend, and sit down!” He came over, and sat down.

¹⁸ "Appoint judges and officers for your tribes in every city the LORD your God gives you. They are to judge the people fairly.

⁵ "Bring that man or woman who has done this evil deed out to your gates. Stone the man or the woman to death.

¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his place.

⁷ If the man doesn't want to take his brother's wife, then she shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, My husband's brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me.

¹² And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: yet there is a kinsman nearer than I.

⁷ "When I went out to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square,

²¹ If I have raised a hand against the fatherless, because I had around me greater support:

¹ Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the water. You, who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

¹⁰ You hate the one who reproves in the gate, and abhor him who speaks the truth (with integrity). ¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as you trample on the poor, and take taxes of wheat from him- therefore you who have built houses of cut stone will not dwell in them. You who have planted pleasant vineyards shall not drink their wine. ¹² For I know how many are your offences, and how great are your sins-- you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the courts.

¹⁵ Hate evil and love good and establish justice in the gate; perhaps the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

⁶ "Woe! Woe! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have scattered you like the four winds of the heavens," declares the LORD.
