¹ There was a certain man from Ramathaim Zophim, from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. ² which had two wives, the one called Hannah and the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. ³ Now this man used to go up from his town year by year to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD Almighty in Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD. ⁴ ⌊On⌋ the day Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. ⁵ But to Hannah he would give a double portion, because he loved Hannah, though the LORD had closed her womb. ⁶ Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because the LORD had shut up her womb. ⁷ This went on year after year when she went up to the house of the LORD; she provoked her, therefore she wept and didn't eat. ⁸ Elkanah her husband said to her, "Hannah, why are you crying and why don't you eat? Why are you upset? Am I not better to you than ten sons?" ⁹ So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of the LORD's temple. ¹⁰ She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly. ¹¹ She vowed a vow, and said, “the LORD of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.” ¹² As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli saw her mouth. ¹³ And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. ¹⁴ Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine!” ¹⁵ "No, sir!" Hannah replied. "I'm a deeply troubled woman. I've drunk neither wine nor beer. I've been pouring out my soul before the LORD. ¹⁶ Do not take your servant to be a good-for-nothing woman: for my words have come from my stored-up sorrow and pain. ¹⁷ Eli answered: "Go in peace. May the God of Israel give you what you have asked of him." ¹⁸ She said, "Let your servant find favor in your eyes." Then she went on her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad. ¹⁹ They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. ²⁰ So it was that she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel. She explained: "I asked the LORD for him." ²¹ So the man Elkanah went up with all his household to make the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to pay his vow. ²² But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "Once the boy is weaned, I will bring him, so that he may appear before the LORD; and he will remain there forever." ²³ "Do what you want," Elkanah said to her. "Stay until you have weaned him, only may the LORD bring about what you have said." So Hannah stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him. ²⁴ Then, when she had weaned him, she brought him up with her to Shiloh, along with a three-year-old bull, a half-bushel of flour, and a skin of wine. She brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh, and the boy was young. ²⁵ They slaughtered the bull and brought the boy to Eli. ²⁶ And she said, Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD. ²⁷ I prayed for this boy, and the LORD granted me the request I asked of him. ²⁸ And I have returned him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he shall be given to the LORD. And he worshiped the LORD there.

¹⁷ And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, "You are many people and have great power; you will not have one allotment only; ¹⁸ "The mountain will be yours. For it is a wood, and you will cut it down. The farthest limits will be yours. You will drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they are strong."

³³ And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill country of Ephraim

⁵ Then Gilead captured the fords of the Jordan from Ephraim, and whenever a fugitive of Ephraim said, "Let me cross over," the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" When he said, "No,"

¹ There was a man named Micah, who lived in the mountains of Ephraim.

¹ In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who took a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah.

² And the man's name was Elimelech, and his wife's name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they came to the land of Moab, and remained there.

¹⁹ They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

⁵ When they reached the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, Come, let us return, lest my father stop caring about the donkeys and be anxious for us.

¹² David was the son of that Ephrathite man named Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah. He had eight sons; at the time when Saul was king he was old, having lived to an advanced age.

²⁶ Jeroboam rebelled against the king. He was the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was Zeruah, a widow.

²⁵ The descendants of Elkanah: Amasai, Ahimoth, ²⁶ Elkanah his son, Zophai his son, Nahath his son, ²⁷ Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son and Samuel his son.

³⁴ the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,

⁵⁷ When evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who had himself also become a disciple of Jesus.

¹⁹ Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah.

²³ Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me.

¹ Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. She had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar. ² She said to Abram: "the LORD has kept me from having children. Go sleep with my maidservant. Perhaps I can build a family through her." Abram agreed to what Sarai said.

²¹ Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife because she was childless. the LORD answered his prayer. His wife Rebekah became pregnant.

²³ And in the evening he took his daughter Leia and brought her to Jacob; and Jacob went in unto her. ²⁴ And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah, as a maid for her. ²⁵ In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn't I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?” ²⁶ Laban answered: "It is not our custom to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one. ²⁷ Fulfil the week [with] this one: then we will give thee the other one also, for the service that thou shalt serve me yet seven other years. ²⁸ Jacob did that. He finished the week with Leah. Then Laban gave his daughter Rachel to him as his wife. ²⁹ Laban gave his slave Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her slave.

³¹ When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

¹⁵ "If a man has two wives where one is loved but the other is unloved, and both of them bear him sons, but the firstborn is the son of the unloved wife, ¹⁶ Then when he gives his property to his sons for their heritage, he is not to put the son of his loved one in the place of the first son, the son of the hated wife: ¹⁷ But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated as the first-born by giving him a double portion of all that he has. For he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the first-born is his.

³⁰ Gideon had seventy sons conceived from his body, for he had many wives.

² There was a man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah, and his wife was barren and childless.

⁸ He said to them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, on account of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not so from the beginning.

⁷ But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

³⁶ And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher (she was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,

¹⁴ "Three times a year you shall celebrate a festival for me.

¹⁷ Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Sovereign LORD.

²³ Three times in the year your men shall appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel.

⁵ ¶ But ye shall seek the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there for his habitation, and thou shalt go there. ⁶ and bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, your vows, your freewill offerings and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. ⁷ and there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye and your households shall rejoice in every work of your hands in which the LORD thy God has blessed thee.

¹¹ then to the place which the LORD your God shall choose, to cause His name to dwell there, you must bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the wave offering of your hand and all your chosen vows which you vow to the LORD. ¹² And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God; you, your sons, your daughters, your menservants, your female servants, and the Levite that is within your gates (because he has no part nor inheritance with you). ¹³ Be careful not to offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see, ¹⁴ But in the place which the Lord shall choose in one of thy tribes shalt thou offer sacrifices, and shalt do all that I command thee.

¹⁶ Three times in the year all of your males shall appear before the LORD your God at the place that he will choose, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed.

¹ After this, the entire assembly of the Israelites gathered together at Shiloh and set up a Tent of Meeting there, where the land lay conquered before them.

³¹ So they set them up Micahs graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

⁹ So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of the LORD's temple.

²¹ So the man Elkanah went up with all his household to make the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to pay his vow.

¹² Now the sons of Eli were wicked men. They didn't know the LORD. ¹³ And the custom of the priests with the people was this: When any man brought a sacrifice, as the meat was boiling, the servant of the priest would take a three-pronged meat fork in his hand ¹⁴ and he stabbed it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or pot. The priest took all that the fork brought up for himself. They did this to all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh. ¹⁵ But even before they burned the fat, the servant of the priest would come and say to the person offering the sacrifice, "Give me meat to roast for the priest. He won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw." ¹⁶ If the man said to him, Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as you want; he would say, No, give it to me now, and if you don't, I will take it by force. ¹⁷ The sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for the men despised the LORD's offering.

³⁴ Here's a sign for you your two sons Hophni and Phineas will both die on the same day!

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile and he did not restrain them.

⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD Almighty, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹¹ The Ark of God was captured, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, died.

¹⁷ The man who brought the news answered, Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has been a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons Hophni and Phinehas are dead, and the ark of God has been captured. ¹⁸ Soon as he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward from his seat by the gate, and his back was broken, and he died; for he was an old man and heavy. Now he had judged Israel twenty years.

⁶⁰ And He leaveth the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men,

¹² "But go to my place in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell from the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. ¹³ Now, because you have done all these things," declares the LORD, "I spoke to you over and over again, but you didn't listen. I called to you, but you didn't answer. ¹⁴ Just as I did to Shiloh, I'll do to the house in which you trust and which is called by my name, the place that I gave to you and your ancestors.

⁴¹ Every year His parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover.

⁴ and the two kidneys with the fat that lieth upon the loins; and the caul that is on the liver, they shall take away with the kidneys.

¹⁵ The flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it until the morning.

¹⁷ You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain or new wine or oil, or the firstborn of your herd or of your flock, nor any of your vows which you vow, nor your freewill offerings, nor the wave offering of your hand; ¹⁸ But you must eat them before the LORD your God in the place which the LORD your God shall choose; you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite within your gates. And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God in all that you put your hand to.

¹¹ And thou shall rejoice before LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite who is within thy gates, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are in th

¹ Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. She had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar.

¹⁸ For the Lord had closed up every womb of the house of Abimelech, on account of Sara, Abraham's wife.

³⁰ Jacob slept with Rachel too. He loved Rachel more than Leah. So he worked for Laban another seven years. ³¹ When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

² But Jacob was angry with Rachel, and said, Am I in the place of God, who has kept your body from having fruit?

³⁴ And portions were taken unto them from before him; but Benjamin's portion was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.

²² To each and to all of them he gave sets of clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five sets of clothing.

¹⁵ "If a man has two wives where one is loved but the other is unloved, and both of them bear him sons, but the firstborn is the son of the unloved wife,

¹⁸ You shall not marry your wife's sister, to be a rival, to uncover her nakedness, while her sister is yet alive.

¹⁴ "A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends, even though he forsakes his reverence for the Almighty.

²¹ "They prey on the barren woman, and does no favors for widows.

¹⁹ His mother made him a little robe. She brought it to him when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

¹⁵ He shall be to you a restorer of life and sustain you in your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.”

¹⁶ David begged God on behalf of the youngster. He fasted, went inside, and spent the night lying on the ground. ¹⁷ The elders of his household stood over him to lift him up from the ground, but he was not willing, and he did not eat any food with them.

¹² "Why are you crying, sir?" Hazael asked. "Because I know the evil that you're about to bring on the Israelites," he replied. "You'll burn down their fortified cities, execute their young men with swords, dash to pieces their little ones, and you'll tear open their pregnant women!"

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy and I will praise you upon the harp, O God, my God.

¹ "Sing joyfully, O barren woman, you who never bore a child! Burst into song and shout for joy, you who were never in labor! More are the children of the desolate woman than of the woman, who has a husband," proclaims the LORD.

⁶ "the LORD will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit; a wife, who married young, only to be rejected, says your God.

¹³ They asked her, "Lady, why are you crying?" She told them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where they have put him."

¹⁵ Jesus asked her, "Dear lady, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him away."

¹⁴ And we urge you, brethren, admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

³ and the lamp of God was not yet gone out and Samuel was laid down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was,

¹⁵ Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD, but he was afraid to report the vision to Eli.

² the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now, I live in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains.

⁷ But I, in the abundance of Your grace, I will come into Your house; I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple.

⁴ One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple

⁹ The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and strippeth the forests bare; and in His temple all say: 'Glory.'

¹⁰ And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation. And he made a mourning for his father seven days.

² The people came to Bethel where they sat until evening before God, raising their voices and weeping bitterly.

²⁰ She said: "Do not call me Naomi (meaning pleasant). Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life bitter.

³⁶ As soon as he finished speaking, the king's sons arrived. They cried loudly and the king and all his men also cried very bitterly.

⁸ "You know your father and his followers are mighty warriors. They are as fierce as a mother bear whose cubs have just been killed. Your father has a lot of experience in fighting wars. He will not spend the night with the others.

³ "Remember now, LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly.

¹¹ "Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ He would not let me take my breath, but I would be full of bitter grief.

¹ "I loathe my very life. I will therefore give free rein to my complaint and speak out in my bitterness.

¹⁵ Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.

¹⁵ What can I say? For he has spoken to me, and he himself has done it. I will walk slowly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁷ If you don't listen, I'll cry secretly because of your pride. My eyes will cry bitterly, flowing tears, because the LORD's flock has been taken captive.

¹⁰ "Do not weep for the dead or mourn for him. Weep continually for the one who goes away. For he will never return or see his native land.

¹⁵ VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, he has drenched me with gall.

⁴⁴ And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.

⁷ During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.

¹ God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark. He sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.

²⁰ Jacob made a vow. He said: "If God will be with me and will watch over me on my trip and give me food to eat and clothes to wear,

³² Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, because she said: »Certainly, the LORD has seen my misery. Now my husband will love me!«

²² Then God remembered Rachel. God listened to her and opened her womb.

³¹ The people believed them. When they heard that the LORD was concerned about the people of Israel and that he had seen their misery, they knelt, bowed low and worshiped.

⁵ All the time of his separation no razor shall pass over his head, until the day be fulfilled of his consecration to the Lord. He shall be holy, and shall let the hair of his head grow.

⁸ All the days of his separation he is holy to the LORD.

¹¹ The priest shall offer one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make atonement for him, because he sinned by reason of the dead, and shall make his head holy that same day.

² Then Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD and said, "If thou wilt give this people into our hands, we will destroy their cities."

³ And in case a woman vows a vow to the LORD and binds herself by a bond in the house of her father in her youth, ⁴ but if her father hears her vow or her pledge that she bound on herself and says nothing to her, then all her vows will stand, and every pledge that she binds on her life will stand. ⁵ But if her father forbids her in the day that he hears, none of her vows or of her pledges with which she has bound her soul, shall stand. the LORD will forgive her, because her father has forbidden her. ⁶ "If she has a husband while bound by her vows or a rash promise of her lips, ⁷ and her husband hears of it and is silent on the day he hears it, her vows will stand, and her pledge that she bound upon herself will stand. ⁸ But if on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he will nullify her vow that she is under, and the rash promise of her lips that she bound on herself; and the LORD will forgive her.

³⁰ And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, and he said, "If indeed you will give the Ammonites into my hand,

⁵ because you will conceive and bear a son. No razor will touch his head, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth. And it is he who will begin to deliver Israel from the hand of the Philistines."

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

¹⁸ Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

¹ [A song of ascents.] LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: ² Remember how he swore an oath to the LORD and made this vow to the Mighty One of Jacob.

⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow!

⁸ I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. ⁹ So I tell you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

¹ Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.

¹⁸ Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.

² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful,

¹⁷ Pray continually!

¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

⁴² Then today I came to the spring, and I said, 'O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if you would please make my journey successful, upon which I am going. ⁴³ Behold! I stand at the well of water, and when the virgin comes out to draw water, and I say to her, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher, ⁴⁴ and she will tell me, 'Drink, and I will also draw for your camels' - let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son. ⁴⁵ "Before I had finished speaking in my heart, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew, and I said to her, 'Please let me drink.'

⁴ The king answered, "What do you want?" So I prayed to the God of heaven

¹ Of David. To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.

¹⁵ The LORD of hosts will defend them; and they will destroy and overcome with sling stones; and they will drink, and roar as through wine; and they will be filled like bowls, like the corners of the altar.

¹³ But others mocked them and said, “They are drunk on new wine!”

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.

⁷ endures all, trusts all, hopes all, abides all:

¹² all the Israelites assembled at Selo, to go up to war against them. ¹³ And the sons of Israel sent Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest to the sons of Reuben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, ¹⁴ Ten leading men went with Phinehas, one from each of the western tribes and each one the head of a family among the clans. ¹⁵ Who came to the children of Ruben, and of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasses, into the land of Galaad, and said to them: ¹⁶ “The whole congregation of the LORD says, 'What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away today from following the LORD, in that you have built yourselves an altar, to rebel today against the LORD? ¹⁷ Is not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves today, and for which a plague came to the congregation of the LORD, ¹⁸ Now then, are you turning away from following the LORD today? If you rebel against the LORD today, by tomorrow he will be angry with the entire community of Israel. ¹⁹ "If your land is not fit to worship in, come over into the LORD's land, where his Tabernacle is. Claim some land among us. But do not rebel against the LORD or make rebels out of us by building an altar in addition to the altar of the LORD our God. ²⁰ Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a sin in the cursed thing, and was there not wrath on all the company of Israel? And he was not the only one to die in his iniquity.

² "How long will you say such things? Your words are a blustering wind.

¹⁴ if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,

²³ If you return to Shaddai, you will be restored; if you remove wickedness from your tent,

³ How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him down, like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?

²⁴ Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you.

⁹ How long will you lie down, lazy man? When will you get up from your sleep?

¹ Do not judge, or you will be judged. ² For with the same judgment you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. ³ And why do you look for the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye but ignore the board in your own eye?

²⁵ Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

³¹ Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice.

¹⁶ And now my soul is melting within me. Days of sorrow take hold of me;

⁴ These I remember and I pour out my soul within me: that I would go with the multitude; I led them in procession to the house of God, with a voice of rejoicing and thanksgiving, a crowd celebrating a festival.

⁸ ¶ Wait in him at all times; ye peoples, pour out your heart before him; God is our refuge. Selah.

² I pour out my complaint before him. I tell him my troubles. ³ When my spirit faints within me, you know my way. On the path where I walk, they have hidden a trap for me;

⁶ I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah.

¹ A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

¹⁵ Through patience a ruler may be persuaded; a gentle word can break a bone.

¹⁹ Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches! Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.

¹³ some worthless men have gone out from among you and have mislead the inhabitants of their city, saying: Let us go and serve other gods you have not known.

¹² Now the sons of Eli were wicked men. They didn't know the LORD.

²⁷ But the sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no present. But he was silent.

²⁵ Let my lord give no attention to Nabal, that good-for-nothing: for as his name is, so is he, a man without sense: but I, your servant, did not see the young men whom my lord sent.

² "If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! ³ "It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas, no wonder my words have been impetuous.

¹ "I loathe my very life. I will therefore give free rein to my complaint and speak out in my bitterness. ² "I will say to God: 'Do not condemn me, but tell me what charges you have against me.

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good man brings good things out of his good store of treasure, and the evil man brings evil things out of his evil store of treasure.

⁶ The priest said to them, Go in peace. Your way has the approval of the LORD.

³⁵ Then David accepted what she brought him. He said: "Go home in peace. I have listened to what you said and I grant your request."

⁷ Now return and go in peace, so you do nothing to displease the Philistine leaders."

¹⁹ "Go in peace," he said. So Naaman left. After Naaman had gone only a short distance,

¹⁰ Jabez cried out to the God of Israel: Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain. And God granted his request.

³ May He remember all your sacrifices, and accept your whole burnt offerings. Pause. ⁴ He will give you according to your heart, and fulfill all your plans. ⁵ May we shout for joy at your deliverance and unfurl our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.

³⁴ But he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be well from your suffering."

⁵⁰ Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

⁴⁸ And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

⁵ And I have oxen and donkeys, flocks and men-servants and maid-servants. And I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.

⁸ Esau said, "What do you mean by all this company which I met?" Jacob said, "To find favor in the sight of my lord."

¹⁵ And Esau said, "Let me leave some of my people with you." But he said, "What need is there? Let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."

¹³ And she said, "May I find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and have spoken kindly to your servant, and I am not one of your servants."

⁷ Go, eat your bread with mirth, and drink your wine with a joyful heart; for now God has favorably accepted your works.

²⁴ Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

¹ Adam had sexual intercourse with his wife Eve. She became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said: "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man."

¹ the LORD was gracious to Sarah, as he had said. the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised.

¹ There was a certain man from Ramathaim Zophim, from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

¹¹ She vowed a vow, and said, “the LORD of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

¹¹ Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the child served the LORD before Eli the priest.

²⁶ They arose early, at daybreak, and Samuel called to Saul on the housetop, Get up, that I may send you away. Saul arose, and they went outside together.

³ Yahweh, in the morning you will hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

⁷ Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to your mercy remember me for your goodness' sake, O LORD.

¹⁷ Evening, morning, and at noon, I will cry out in distress. He will hear my voice.

¹⁴⁷ I rise before dawn and cry for help. I put my hope in your words.

²³ For the Lord remembered us in our low estate; for His mercy endures forever;

³⁵ Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and slipped out to a solitary place to pray.

⁴² Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

²⁵ Adam had intercourse with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth. She said: "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."

²⁹ He named him Noah. He said: "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed."

¹¹ the LORD's angel also said: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael (means: God hears). the LORD has heard of your misery.

³² Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, because she said: »Certainly, the LORD has seen my misery. Now my husband will love me!« ³³ And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said. Because the LORD heard that, I, was I hated, he gave me, this one also. So she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she was with child again, and gave birth to a son; and said, Now at last my husband will be united to me, because I have given him three sons: so he was named Levi. ³⁵ Leah became pregnant again and gave birth to another son. She said: "This time I will praise the LORD." So she named him Judah (Praise). Then she stopped having children.

⁶ Then Rachel said, God has been my judge, and has given ear to my voice, and has given me a son; so he was named Dan. ⁷ And Rachel's slave woman Bilhah conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son. ⁸ Rachel said: "I have struggled hard with my sister, and I have won!" So she named the boy Naphtali. ⁹ When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took Zilpah her female servant and gave her to Jacob as a wife. ¹⁰ And Leah's slave woman Zilpah bore Jacob a son. ¹¹ Then Leah said, "Good fortune!" And she called his name Gad. ¹² And Leah's slave woman Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. ¹³ Then Leah said, "How happy am I! For women have called me happy." So she called his name Asher. ¹⁴ During the wheat harvest Reuben went out into the fields. He found some mandrake plants. He brought them to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah: "Please, give me some of your son's mandrake plants." ¹⁵ She said to her, "Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son's mandrakes, also?" Rachel said, "Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son's mandrakes." ¹⁶ When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him. And she said, "Come in to me, for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes." And he slept with her that night. ¹⁷ God listened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son. ¹⁸ Then Leah said, God has made payment to me for giving my servant-girl to my husband: so she gave her son the name Issachar. ¹⁹ And Leah conceived again, and bore Jacob a sixth son. ²⁰ Leah said: "God has presented me with a wonderful gift. This time my husband will honor me, because I have given him six sons." So she named him Zebulun. ²¹ And afterwards she gave birth to a daughter and called her name Dinah.

⁵¹ Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house." ⁵² And the name of the second he called Ephraim, because God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.

¹⁰ The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, "Because I drew him out of the water."

²² Later she gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, because he used to say, "I became an alien in a foreign land."

²¹ She will give birth to a son, and you shall give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”

¹⁹ For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do after right and conscience, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that he hath promised him."

¹¹ then to the place which the LORD your God shall choose, to cause His name to dwell there, you must bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the wave offering of your hand and all your chosen vows which you vow to the LORD.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods whom your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

³ Now this man used to go up from his town year by year to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD Almighty in Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD.

² I will be careful to live a blameless life. When will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a blameless heart.

⁶ Then let his master bring him unto the judges and set him to the door or the doorpost, and bore his ear through with an awl, and let him be his servant forever.

²³ And the land shall not be sold in perpetuity; for the land is Mine; for you are aliens and tenants with Me.

⁷ then you shall tell them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.'"

²⁸ And I have returned him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he shall be given to the LORD. And he worshiped the LORD there.

¹⁸ Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD, as a boy wearing a linen ephod.

¹ The child Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. the LORD’s word was rare in those days. There were not many visions, then.

⁶ Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

⁴ The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek."

⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

²² And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they took Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord

⁴¹ Every year His parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. ⁴² And when he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom.

⁷ She added: "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age." ⁸ The child grew and was weaned. Abraham held a big feast on the day Isaac was weaned.

⁷ and her husband hears of it and is silent on the day he hears it, her vows will stand, and her pledge that she bound upon herself will stand. ⁸ But if on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he will nullify her vow that she is under, and the rash promise of her lips that she bound on herself; and the LORD will forgive her. ⁹ The vow of a widow or one driven out, all which she binds on her soul shall be confirmed on her. ¹⁰ "If she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband heard it but was silent to her, and he did not forbid her, all her vows will stand and every pledge that she bound on herself will stand.

¹⁷ Eli answered: "Go in peace. May the God of Israel give you what you have asked of him."

²⁵ And now, O Lord God, raise up for ever the word that thou hast spoken, concerning thy servant and concerning his house: and do as thou hast spoken,

⁹ But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother's breasts.

²⁶ That fulfilleth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith of Jerusalem, It shall be inhabited; and of the cities of Judah, They shall be built, and their ruins will I raise up.

¹⁹ How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers!

²⁷ As Jesus was saying this, a woman in the crowd, raising her voice, exclaimed: "Happy was the mother who bore you and nursed you!"

⁹ then he shall offer with the bull a meal offering of three tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with half a hin of oil; ¹⁰ And you shall bring for a drink offering half a hin of wine, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to the LORD.

⁵ ¶ But ye shall seek the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there for his habitation, and thou shalt go there. ⁶ and bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, your vows, your freewill offerings and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock.

³ When the people had returned to the camp the elders of Israel said, Why has the LORD struck us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh that it may go with us and save us out of the hand of our enemies. ⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD Almighty, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁵ They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

¹⁵ By this you shall be proved; as Pharaoh lives you shall not go forth from here unless your youngest brother comes here.

⁵⁵ When Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he asked Abner, the commander of the army, "Whose son is this young man, Abner?" Abner said, "As surely as you live, your majesty, I don't know."

³ But David took an oath and said, Your father knows well that I have found favour in your eyes, so he says, 'Don't let Jonathan know this, or he will be grieved'; but truly as the LORD lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.

¹¹ Uriah said to David, "The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are camped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing."

¹⁹ The king said, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” The woman answered, “As your soul lives, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken; for your servant Joab urged me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your servant.

² And Elijah said to Elisha, Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel.

⁴ And Elijah said to him, Elisha, please stay here. For the LORD has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho.

⁶ And Elijah said to him, Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And the two of them went on.

³⁰ The child's mother said, “As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So he arose, and followed her.

¹¹ She vowed a vow, and said, “the LORD of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.” ¹² As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli saw her mouth. ¹³ And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

⁹ the LORD has heard my supplication. the LORD accepts my prayer.

¹⁹ But God hath heard me; and considered the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Thanks be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or taken away his loving kindness from me.

¹ I love the LORD because he has heard my prayer for mercy; ² Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. ³ The cords of death compassed me, and the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow ⁴ Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, please save my life!" ⁵ The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is compassionate;

⁵ In my distress I called to the LORD; he answered me and set me free.

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

²⁶ And the man bowed and worshiped the LORD.

⁴⁸ "I bowed low and worshiped the LORD, and praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham. He guided me in the right way to take the daughter of my master's kinsman for his son.

⁵² When Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth to the LORD.

²² But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "Once the boy is weaned, I will bring him, so that he may appear before the LORD; and he will remain there forever."

¹⁵ From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
