¹ The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound;

⁶ "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy hill."

²⁶ The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD shall praise Him; your heart shall live forever.

⁹ He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way.

¹⁸ the LORD is near to the broken-hearted; and saves those who are of a contrite spirit.

⁷ You love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you from among your companions with festive oil.

¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

³² The humble have seen and are glad; you who seek God, your heart shall live.

²⁰ to hear the groans of the prisoner; to free those who are condemned to death;

³ He heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

² The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. ³ His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. ⁵ Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his waist.

¹ "Look my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit on him; he will bring justice to the nations.

⁷ To open eyes that are blind,—To bring forth Out of the dungeon the captive Out of the prison, the dwellers in darkness.

¹⁶ Come near to Me and hear this: 'From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it was, there am I'. Now the Sovereign LORD has sent me, with His Spirit.

⁹ to say to the bound, Come! To them in darkness, Expose! They graze in the ways with their pastures in all the barrens:

²⁴ Can prey be taken from a warrior? Or can prisoners of a tyrant be rescued? ²⁵ But Yahweh says, “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the plunder retrieved from the fierce, for I will contend with him who contends with you and I will save your children.

⁹ Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem! the LORD has comforted his people. He has redeemed Jerusalem.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: "I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

²¹ As for Me, this is My covenant with them, says the LORD: My Spirit who is on you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your seed, or out of the mouth of your seed's seed, from now on and forever, says the LORD.

² And my hand has made all these things, and all these came to be," declares the LORD, "but I look to this one: to the humble and the contrite of spirit and the one frightened at my word.

⁸ The Word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after King Zedekiah had cut a covenant with all the people at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them,

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to put an end to the transgression, and to make an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.

¹ "Come, and let us return to the LORD; for he has torn us to pieces, and he will heal us; he has injured us, and he will bind up our wounds.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from the waterless pit. ¹² Turn to the fortress, you prisoners of hope: even today I tell you that I return double to you;

¹⁶ As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him.

³ "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

⁵ The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and good news is preached to the poor.

¹⁸ “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

²² So He replied, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.

³² Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove, and it remained on Him. ³³ I myself did not know Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is He who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

³⁴ For the One whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey {— } either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. ¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. ²⁰ For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. ²¹ What fruit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death. ²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.

²³ But I see another law in the members of my body, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ²⁴ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? ²⁵ Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with my mind am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

⁶ But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

²⁵ He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. ²⁶ And that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has placed You above Your companions by anointing You with the oil of joy.”
