¹ But the famine, was severe in the land.

¹⁰ There was a famine in the land. Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while, because the famine was severe.

¹³ The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?'

⁵⁴ And the seven years of famine began to come as Joseph had said. And there was famine in all of the countries, but in the land of Egypt there was food. ⁵⁵ When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do." ⁵⁶ And the famine was over the whole land, and Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold food to the Egyptians. And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt. ⁵⁷ And all the countries came into Egypt to buy corn of Joseph; because the famine was sore in all the countries.

⁵ The sons of Israel came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.

¹ I considered all this in my heart and declared that the righteous and their works are in the hand of God. No man knows if love or hatred awaits him in the future. ² The same fate comes to everyone: to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good and to the wicked, to the clean and to the unclean, to those who sacrifice and to those who do not sacrifice. ¹⁰ Our skin is hot like an oven because of the scorching famine.

¹¹ And a famine came over all Egypt and Canaan and great affliction, and our fathers could not find food. ¹² When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers on their first visit. ¹³ On their second visit, Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and Pharaoh learned of Joseph's parentage.
