³⁴ And when he had called the people to him, with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

²¹ Then Jesus, beholding him, loved him, and said to him, One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come follow me.

²³ And he said to them all, If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the narrow gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, Lord, where are you going? Jesus answered him, Where I go, you cannot follow me now; but you shall follow me afterwards. ³⁷ Peter said to him, Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake.

¹⁷ And they took Jesus and led him away, and he, bearing his cross, went forth to a place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:

¹⁹ This he spoke to signify by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he said to him, Follow me. ²⁰ Then Peter, turning about, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following; the one who had leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, who is the one who betrays you?

²² Strengthening the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through much tribulation we must enter the kingdom of God.

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should no longer be enslaved by sin.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him that we may also be glorified with him.

¹ We then who are strong ought to bear with the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good, to edify him. ³ For even Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of those who reproached you fell upon me.

⁹ For I think that God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as if we were condemned to death: for we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honoured, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger and thirst, and are ill-clothed, and are buffeted, and are homeless; ¹² And we labour, working with our own hands: when reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure it: ¹³ When slandered, we answer kindly; we have been made the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things, even to this day.

¹³ Therefore, if food makes my brother fall, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother fall.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, yet I have made myself the servant to all, that I might win the more.

³¹ I assure you, just as I rejoice in you through Christ Jesus our Lord: I die daily.

²⁰ I have been crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

²⁴ And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

¹⁴ But God forbid that I should glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.

⁷ But whatever things were gain to me, those I have counted as loss for Christ.

¹⁰ That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming like him in his death;

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh that which is lacking in the afflictions of Christ for his body's sake, which is the church:

⁵ Therefore, put to death what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

¹¹ For we hear that there are some among you who walk in idleness, not working at all, mere busybodies.

¹² Teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires, and live sensibly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

¹³ Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.

¹ Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same mind: for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;

¹³ But rejoice, insofar as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be triumphantly joyful.

¹⁴ Knowing that shortly I must put off this tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.

¹⁶ By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹⁰ Do not fear any of those things which you shall suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you shall have tribulation ten days: be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.
