¹⁴ For you, brethren, became followers of the churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in Judaea: for you also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they have from the Jews:

¹ And Saul was consenting to his death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

³ As for Saul, he ravaged the church, entering into every house, and dragging off men and women and committing them to prison.

¹ And Saul, still breathing out threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

¹³ Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem:

³¹ Then the church had rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and was being built up; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers.

¹⁹ Now those who were scattered abroad by the persecution that arose over Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but the Jews.

¹ Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to mistreat some who belonged to the church. ² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. ³ And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. (This was during the days of unleavened bread.)

¹ Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews: ² And Paul, as his manner was, went in to them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the scriptures, ³ Explaining and proving, that Christ needed to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and saying, this Jesus, whom I preach to you, is the Christ. ⁴ And some of them believed, and joined Paul and Silas; as did a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the chief women. ⁵ But the Jews who did not believe were moved with envy, and took certain wicked fellows of the rabble, and gathered a crowd, and set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. ⁶ And when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also; ⁷ And Jason has welcomed them: and they do all that is contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus. ⁸ And the people and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things.

¹³ But when the Jews of Thessalonica learned that the word of God was being preached by Paul at Beroea, they came there also, and stirred up the people.

¹⁷ But as the Lord has assigned to every man, as God has called every one, so let him walk. And this is my rule in all the churches.

¹ And now, brethren, we want you to know of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; ² For during a great test of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty overflowed in a wealth of liberality.

²² And was still unknown by face to the churches of Christ in Judaea:

¹ Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you, and peace.

⁶ And you became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word despite much affliction, with joy from the Holy Spirit:

⁴ For truly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we should suffer tribulation; just as it came to pass, as you know.

¹ Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

⁴ So that we ourselves boast of you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all the persecutions and tribulations which you endure:

⁷ In the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his piety. ⁸ Though he was a Son, yet he learned obedience through the things which he suffered;

³³ Sometimes you were made a public spectacle by insults and afflictions; and sometimes, because you became companions to those who were so treated. ³⁴ For you had compassion on the prisoners, and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your goods, knowing that you have a better possession, and an enduring one.
